Growing up as a minority white, I was surrounded by immigrants and did not realize this wasn’t “normal” for some people until I got older and met white fellas who couldn’t understand broken English. As I’ve gotten older and my vocabulary has expanded, as I’ve learned and studied other languages, I’ve developed a love for the English language. It bothers me when I think of how cool it would have been to have grown up surrounded by people who spoke it fluently and richly. This brings me to my next point. When I see white people make careless grammar mistakes, it bothers me. It bothers me even more when they are “racist.” If you want to be a proper racist, you’ll learn to speak and write English well. If the immigrants speak and write better than you do, you can’t call yourself a good racist. Do more. To quote Michael Obama speaking to Oprah Winfrey, “Be Better.”
