@AcdntlyRetired Yes, it's really hard to explain to non-FIRE people what "I can't afford it" means! Here's my best attempt: "I can't afford it" means "I can't afford it without spending the rest of my life in a soul-destroying job and I'm just not willing to do that"

My wife and I will often talk about how we can't afford this or that. But that's the thing... We CAN afford it, but we just choose NOT to.
