Why do Catholics stand and kneel so much during mass? In scripture, prayer is always done either kneeling or standing. This is why the Catholic Mass requires either kneeling or standing during times of prayer.

@valorthodoxia @ThirdCrossMusic U said sola scriptura is the cause and this guy pointed out a church that does not hold to that doctrinal framework yet is still overrun with liberal ideology. Its not Sola scriptura its political liberalism

@mythbuster1304 @oliverburdick Church fathers are useful 100% but in fairness, plenty didn't believe Mary was without sin, assumed to heaven, or seemed to argue for prayer to God alone as apposed to intercessory prayer. Just a thought. But by all means read and study the fathers

@GafferNateB @BishopJaxi "Protestantism" is a general term to which your critique doesnt hold. "Some" protestants (mainly lay lukewarm evangelicals that other protestants wouldnt call protestant) believe in easy believism, but historic protestants believed in perseverance and the reality of apostacy

@BishopJaxi Protestantism is so strange. On one hand they will tell you that you cannot lose your salvation if you profess Jesus. On the other they will tell you all the triffle ways you can lose salvation. I can't imagine Jesus saying, "you revered my mother, so to hell with you!"

@JockoBocko3 @AL_J82 @Acts17David I think the point is that the claim of EO that icon veneration was an apostolic deposit does not make sense of many early writings are against it. Other apostolic deposits like the Eucharist or Baptism is never really met with scrutiny in this way

One of the main sticking points for Protestants who start examining Eastern Orthodoxy is that icon veneration seems eerily similar to the idolatry that's condemned throughout the Bible. I think I've gotten the gist of the EO perspective on this issue from my recent discussions, so it's time to dive a little deeper. Who wants to join me for a friendly discussion/debate on whether EO icon veneration is a problem according to the Bible?

@patristicpill @Acts17David The latria dulia distinction was not present until nicea 2, and the images in the early church were for didactic use like teaching stories through images, there is no evidence that they were used as veneration as an apostolic deposit. +many early writings that oppose image use

The biblical ban is against latria to false gods, not sacred imagery. Same Scripture commands cherubim over the Ark, woven images in the Temple, and the bronze serpent. Archaeology also gives us Dura-Europos: early Jews and Christians using biblical sacred images in worship spaces. The issue is pagan worship, not iconography

@TvMalik96737 @MikePagano87 @C2Antiquity Hermaneuitics and the context of what is written usually provide evidence. We also know that Jesus died because in the Greco-Roman Biogrpahies that are the 4 gospels, it describes the historical event of the death of Jesus as a real temporal event

@MikePagano87 @C2Antiquity Revelation says Jesus died. Is that imagery that didn’t really happen? You need to tell us why we should read it as imagery, and what the imagery means in Revelation 5 and 8.

@TaymiApologia The disciples regularly misunderstood Jesus and his mission during his ministry. When the Holy Spirit fell on them and they went out to fulfill the great commission, God used them to build his Church and spread the gospel. This does not necessarily make them 500 iq.

@hdpayens @needGod_net @WesleyLHuff Is it prideful to state your believe about anything? Are you not prideful right now stating that he is prideful? It would be prideful to declare definitively somebody's salvation, but it isnt prideful to speculate and come to a conclusion based on their fruit...

@BeatusLeibowitz @ChrisxCrash92 He is not declaring they are saved, he is stating his view that he believes they are saved. Nobody can make the final judgement but God, but people can be relatively persuaded of somebody's salvation based on evidence of their fruit and faith. Why are you misrepresenting?

@ChristandGuitar I have a hard time understanding why they wouldn't be able to say Christ "heals" outside of EO. If we are to judge based on fruits, what else can we describe what happened to DW as other than Christ's "healing"? He was seriously messed up before Christ and now he the opposite

I've been following David Wood's dive into Eastern Orthodoxy and just finished watching his video with Orthodox Ethos. I have to be honest: It was extremely unconvincing as a positive case for EO. The constant appeal to church fathers over Scripture was a huge red flag. The main argument boiled down to: "This is how Christianity has always been, God wouldn't abandon His church, we're right, so join our church." The most interesting part was about Christians outside the church. OE argued that those outside of EO may "follow" Christ in a sense, but do not have Christ in them for His healing. This clashes with Acts 10: Acts 10:44-45, 47-48a While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. These Gentiles were filled with the Holy Spirit after simply hearing and believing the Gospel - *before* baptism. This makes it tough to argue that baptism is required for salvation, let alone for God's spirit to indwell someone. This also undermines EO's claim of "this is what the Church has always taught."

Let’s answer this appropriately. Yes, the Father is the only true God, but Jesus didn’t say, “only the Father is the true God.” Where you place the word “only” in a sentence matters. If I said, “2+2 only equals 4,” that is true. But if I said, “only 2+2 equals 4,” that is false, because 3+1 equals 4. So we can say the Father is the only true God. The Son is the only true God. The Holy Spirit is the only true God. In fact, John said in 1 John 5:20 that the Son is true God. In John 17:3 eternal life is knowing Jesus and the Father, meaning eternal life comes from both of them, making them both God. The Gospel of John even opens by says Jesus is God (John 1:1). So this was never a problem for the sacred doctrine of the Trinity
Daniel@Oluwadaniel_0

Trinitarians can you confess with your mouth that the Father is the ONLY true God and not Jesus or anyone else?

This week, the Christian side of twitter saw a revenge porn situation. The young woman wrote a substack piece about how red pilled theobros were affecting her particular tradition. To “rebut” her claims (but actually proving her point), someone who used to date her posted a picture of her in underwear or a swimsuit. Those who shared that photo must repent.
