Investment & Returns Preventing adolescent pregnancy is both an ethical imperative and a sound investment. ROI estimates: For every dollar invested in prevention, returns range from USD 15–40 depending on the country. 7/

Study Scope 15 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname 5 areas: education, labor force participation, income, health expenditures,& fiscal losses 6/

(after sub-Saharan Africa), with 1.6 million births annually—one every 20 seconds. Inequalities: Afro-descendant adolescents are 50% more likely to become mothers than non-Afro-descendant peers. 5/

compared to those who become mothers at 20+. Income gap: Adult mothers earn up to three times more than adolescent mothers. Regional fertility rates: Despite progress, adolescent fertility remains the second highest globally 4/

Burden distribution: 88.2% of the financial burden is borne directly by adolescents aged 10–19; the State covers USD 1.8 billion in health expenditures & lost tax revenues Educational impact: Women who give birth in adolescence are 3 times less likely to complete university 3/

Key Findings Economic cost: Adolescent pregnancy and early motherhood cost 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries USD 15.3 billion annually, about 1% of GDP. 2/
