@MitchamCrktGrn @cllrneaverson @Merton_Council I hope @cllrneaverson’s passion for protecting building heights extends to Mitcham as well as Colliers Wood 🙏 Yes to housing on key sites, no to giant overdevelopments for the sake of stakeholder profits or to meet housing quotas #mitchamdeservesbetter

A 🧵 for @cllrneaverson who has the decisive task of chairing this evening's meeting of @Merton_Council's Planning Committee where the fate of Mitcham Gasworks.....and the future character of Mitcham Village....will be decided

It's decision time at @MertonCouncil on the planning application to build 579 flats in tower blocks rising to nine storeys on Mitcham Gasworks. Here are some of the many reasons why councillors on the Planning Committee should refuse it #MitchamDeservesBetter 🧵

@MitchamCrktGrn @MitchamGasworks @MitchamSociety Another misleading pic of the development focusing only on the lower-rise blocks and not highlighting the bulk, mass and density of the high-rise towers. Still no family houses by the looks and the affordable housing provision falls short of Merton’s target
English

Revised plans for nine storey tower blocks on Mitcham Gasworks just published - completely out of character and looking pretty grim. The fundamentals are unchanged - too high, unaffordable, poorly designed - and the plans would blight Mitcham Village

Not only has @GB_Baseball made it to the quarterfinals after winning Group B at the European Championship, our very own umpire, Gabor Erdos, is also going to be on the field as 3rd base umpire for the Israel v Netherlands game - Good luck, Gabor!”

@hilaryosborne Brilliant to bump into Andrew last week and hear that you’re doing well. So so great to hear xx

I'm hearing @aidanmundy chair of #Mitcham Community Forum is refusing a community request for the Mitcham Gasworks planning application (500+ flats, blocks to 9 storeys) to go on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting. If true this seems to take the community out of the forum.

@MertonGreens @pippamaslin @MitchamGasworks Thank you for raising awareness and for your support 🙌 And yes, shocking that our own ward councillors are staying silent on the matter and refusing to listen to local residents’ concerns

Today, Merton Green @pippamaslin helped @MitchamGasworks campaigners to deliver their extremely helpful flyer & knock on doors. Every single person said they oppose the plan. Some expressed disappointment in their Cllrs & MP. People want new homes on the site, but fewer & better.

English

@MatthewMarks42 @MitchamCrktGrn @MarkGale @MitchamGasworks I think if the designs were more in line with the council’s own local plan (c. 300 units) and included decent onsite parking, there would be less of an impact on surrounding streets. 1200+ residents/135 parking spaces doesn’t sound ideal as part of a suburban housing development
English

@MitchamCrktGrn @MarkGale @MitchamGasworks Except it contradicts itself both by complaining about too few car parking spaces whilst simultaneously complaining about too much traffic. You can't have it both ways.

Campaigning for sustainable developments inc family houses over giant concrete blocks with single aspect flats + lack of green space, as proposed at Mitcham Gasworks. Lots of opposition to current plans in Mitcham town centre today @Siobhain_Mc @EdithmacauleyM @NDIrons @UsaamaK

No one denies that new homes are needed, but lots of residents living in the surrounding neighbourhood think that the plan packs too many units onto the site, which is, notably, already in a highly congested area, and that the building height is incongruous with the surroundings.

Mitcham Gasworks Planning Application in 22/P3620 595 FLATS IN 6 BLOCKS RANGING BETWEEN 5 AND 9 STOREYS WITH 135 PARKING SPACES @MitchamGasworks planning.merton.gov.uk/Northgate/Plan…

New plans for 595 flats in blocks to 9 storeys for #Mitcham Gas Works now live. It's pure greed and would blight #MitchamVillage. Single aspect (windows on one side only), barely any true social, too tall, too dense. There are much better ways to provide homes on this site.

English

@MarkGale @MitchamGasworks Looks like 10 blocks rather than six. Very densely packed. Inadequate parking and around double the number of units initially deemed appropriate for the site by the council 😠
