Here in America we really have to stop calling gasoline "gas." It's not a gas. It's a liquid (as we typically encounter it). And it's not natural gas, which is actually called "gas" globally. Plus, when we say "gas" it confuses all the Europeans, but that's only a bonus. On top of all that, we say people "have gas" which actually does mean something gaseous, but has no resemblance to the "gas" we put in our cars. And then finally, to really confuse everybody else, we have "gas" stations and food convenience stores coupled together so that you can literally, "Eat here and get gas" which is often true but confusing. What's a better name for gasoline in the USA? (Please don't say "petrol" because that just sounds too faggoty...)

This is absolutely fascinating. In 1977, a 109 year old woman born in 1868 is interviewed about her life. When asked whether she has ever been on an airplane, she says never, but that she might now because she is “more venturesome.” When asked about the biggest change she has seen, she replies: “Everything. Nothing is the same.” Living from the horse and buggy days to the jet age in one lifetime. I also love the way she commands the English language. It feels like an art form that has been lost over time.

@BrianRoemmele 86-87 were the peak years for high school. I hope that one day kids can experience what it's like when people shaped culture. I think we panicked them into locking down society. A couple more generations of us would have been unstoppable.

let me make sure i’m understanding this correctly the supreme court is refunding all tariff money back to corporations. the same corporations that didn’t pay a single cent of those tariffs to begin with. they passed every dollar directly to you through higher prices on everything you buy you went to the store and paid more for groceries. you paid more for clothes. for car parts. for literally everything. that money came out of YOUR pocket not theirs and now the refund goes to THEM? the corporations who used the tariffs as an excuse to raise prices even higher than the tariff itself and pocket the difference the american people funded the tariffs. the corporations profited off the tariffs. and now the corporations get a refund on money they never spent in the first place and nobody in washington thinks the people who actually paid should get the money back. not a single person has even suggested it guess we are never getting our DOGE checks either this country does not work for you. it works for them. it’s a joke and they’re not even pretending anymore
