The nonsense of the GOOD 4 rating was laid bare at Flemington on Saturday. The form guides will show Concord Connie won at Flem on 25/4 and 16/5 over 1400m on an official GOOD 4. In her first win, she ran 1:21.87 and on Sat, 1:23.98. More than two seconds slower. The track around the circle on Sat was not within a bulls roar of GOOD, and it was an obvious error to water on Friday evening in Winter. The results were what you would expect on a genuinely water affected track, with long priced runners featuring heavily amongst the placegetters all day. 👎

As a punter, AMUSING from R5 on Saturday is exactly the kind of situation stewards should always look deeper into from a betting perspecitve for the sake of integrity and transparency. Despite having the premier rider, ideal draw and strong lead-in form (albeit on softer ground), the horse drifts from $2.90 → $4 with corporates, Betfair SP $4.80. One stablemate is $3 → $2.20, the other two firm in betting. Horse has every possible chance but disappoints. Rider suggests it was “flat” off recent wet tracks, stable rep says it’s heading for a spell. Certainly not suggesting anything untoward, this happens a lot after heavy-track racing. But for the good of the game and punter confidence, situations like this should be looked at and cleared publicly. With the rise of mega stables, these scenarios will only become more common #TheGreatGame
