In startups, success is never guaranteed, And this outcome is sadly just the way it goes sometimes. But @radi_cojbasic and @jimpo_potamus should be proud of the incredible and frontier work that they did to push the boundaries of zero knowledge cryptography. All while maintaining integrity in an industry where just slapping a token on it and walking away is the easiest thing to do.

1/ Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Irreducible. We started as a custom-hardware company, and now we are fully focused on high-performance software. Read below about our pivot and our new proof system, Binius64 👇

We were doing FPGA acceleration as the stepping stone for the ASIC/SoC. All our RTL design was aiming it. The issue is that there is no market for ASICs, unlike in AI, automotive, consumer laptops and phones. Back in 2021, we assumed that each phone will have a zk chip or chiplet by 2025. This is not happening and we abandoned ASIC roadmap. As for the performance, we had periods when our FPGA accelerators were outperforming GPUs on plonky2 and plonky3 but the monetization was not there. GPUs are good price/performance/ease-of-use vehicle today, but CPUs are better, too.
