3/3 I hope that one day I can stroll down Rajpath again and get hold of a disastrously sweet cola bar, just for old times' sake. Happy Republic Day Everyone! I hope you will share this with your friends and send in photographs and memories of your visits to Central Vista for me.

1/3 As I watched marching contingents, bands, floats and tanks make their way down Rajpath for our 73rd Republic Day Parade, I couldn’t help but think of a far more plebeian yet wonderfully joyous treat - ice cream at India Gate! #RepublicDay

2/3 The  ubiquitous ice cream wallahs, as the carts are called, are part of every Dilliwalas quintessential India Gate memory. For some reason, it was always a post-dinner treat, being outdoors in the night adding that extra frisson of delight.

4/4 for a hard won freedom. Here is a memory that I share today with all of you with the request that if you have a selfie at India Gate, please share it with me or DM it to include in my ongoing project on Central Vista.

1/4 - I ask myself if I am blind or mad as I watch the news that blares on about the unveiling of a hologram and the ‘merger’ of Amar Jawan Joyti underlined with the droning narrative of India Gate and Central Vista being a colonial legacy that has no place in the India of today.

3 assimilate a past rife with challenges that brought us to where we stand today. There is irony in installing a hologram of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who declared that he would not accept independence as alms but obliterating the very site that represents that burning desire

2/4 Perhaps these people, as also the likes of me, are not included in the aspirations the government has for the new India. We no longer fit the bill because we do not see our history as one that is uniformly glorious and sacred but recognise our resilience and ability to

2/4 - For 6 months when I documented Central Vista before its redevelopment, I watched an average of 3000 people stream in and out of the area, taking endless selfies in front of India Gate. Why on earth did they care to mark their presence at this monument? #AmarJawanJyoti
