The biggest concession that U.S. President Donald Trump may have arguably wrung out of Prime Minister Modi was the opportunity to announce the “deal” first. The only reason that word appears in quotes is because, strictly speaking, no deal with Trump is done till it has been inked. The Canadians and Mexicans found that out the hard way. What Modi and Trump have finalised is a framework for a deal, and interlocutors on both sides will now sit together to work on finalising a joint statement, followed by the signing of the agreement. But despite no visibility on the fine print, the broad contours of the understanding have been placed in the public domain by both sides. Under the agreement, nearly $30 billion worth of Indian exports will face an 18 percent tariff, even as labour-intensive sectors are expected to gain a competitive edge. There is no change in tariffs for sectors covered under Section 232, including automobiles and steel. India, for its part, intends to purchase up to $500 billion worth of U.S. products critical to its economic security over the next five years, spanning oil and LNG, aircraft and components, precious metals, diamonds, technology products, high-end chips and data-centre equipment. About $44 billion worth of goods that were earlier exempt from reciprocal tariffs will continue to remain so, including pharmaceuticals, mobile phones, minerals and natural resources. Crucially, India’s red lines on agriculture and dairy have been respected. That last bit is what stands out. India clearly has not budged on its most closely held red lines. The India of an era gone by would not have been able to go toe-to-toe with the United States. Examples abound. Across the 1990s and 2000s, India repeatedly accommodated U.S. pressure, accepting stricter IPR rules under the WTO, aligning geopolitically during the civil nuclear deal, cutting Iranian oil imports, absorbing the loss of GSP benefits, softening positions on data, climate and trade, and deepening defence interoperability, often recalibrating later to reclaim autonomy. Modi’s India is different. Over the last decade, India has emerged as an independent and indispensable economic pole holding up a significant share of the global economy. At 17 percent, India is second only to China in contributing to global real GDP growth. As Ian Bremmer, President of the Eurasia Group, puts it, no serious conversation on the global economy can happen without India. That growing heft has translated into leverage. It explains why Trump, who has shown little hesitation in publicly browbeating even long-standing U.S. allies, has chosen restraint in his dealings with New Delhi, whether on tariffs, market access or strategic alignment. In a world shaped by Darwinian principles, power commands respect. This is not to suggest that a Trump-led United States regards India as a strategic equal, but to underline a reality Washington cannot escape: Delhi is a meaningful partner whose autonomy has to be acknowledged and, increasingly, respected.

Pointedly refraining from endorsing US President @realDonaldTrump’s claim that India has promised to reduce its buying of Russian oil, Prime Minister @narendramodi has confirmed that there’s a deal done with Washington to lower American tariffs to 18 percent from the earlier punitive additional 25 percent slapped on India. This climbdown by President Trump is an unmistakable vindication of the steely & sober diplomatic strategy of the Narendra Modi Government. The Prime Minister has shown exemplary courage & vision in handling the grave provocation that India faced due to the abrasive belligerence of the US these last several months. The strategy that Delhi adopted in response to the situation was admirable. Free trade agreements were signed with several key countries, including the high profile agreement with the EU which demonstrated India is a major economic power, sought after by other major powers. It required nerves of steel to wait out this difficult period & to refuse to be provoked by internal opposition & the prospect of isolation. Hats off to the Prime Minister @narendramodi & his colleagues who pulled off the impossible!
Narendra Modi@narendramodi

Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18%. Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement. When two large economies and the world’s largest democracies work together, it benefits our people and unlocks immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. President Trump’s leadership is vital for global peace, stability, and prosperity. India fully supports his efforts for peace. I look forward to working closely with him to take our partnership to unprecedented heights. @POTUS @realDonaldTrump

Mr Haqqani, hand to heart ,please tell is it possible to talk sense to an army whose sole raison d’être of existence and primacy is hatred against India/Hindus? Have you been able to talk sense into them in all these years of your diplomatic life. India’s patience has run out now
Husain Haqqani@husainhaqqani

The saddest development in Indian subcontinent is that there is no significant vocal constituency for peace left in either India or Pakistan. Instead of worrying about Mutual Assured Destruction, discourse in both countries is about ‘bring it on.’ (Not going into reasons here)

"After just four days of calibrated military action, it is objectively conclusive: India achieved a massive victory. Operation Sindoor met and exceeded its strategic aims—destroying terrorist infrastructure, demonstrating military superiority, restoring deterrence, and unveiling a new national security doctrine. This was not symbolic force. It was decisive power, clearly applied."

Operation Sindoor vs. Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos Some of the firsts One : Realizing the stalemated status or irrelevance of the UNSC, India didn’t seek to request sympathy from the five of the 1945. Operation Sindoor clearly demonstrated a strong sense of self-confidence and real strategic autonomy and sovereignty. Two: For the first time, India shredded the notion that terrorists are separate from terrorist backers and thus targeted both. The notion that certain powerful rogue officers of Pakistani State authorize terrorist attacks was also shredded. This is a new paradigm. Another type of deniability must be invented. Third: There was a battle going and a war being planned. In the midst of the battle, Pakistan negotiated for a loan from the IMF, which surprisingly approved it. It matters because most likely Pakistan isn’t fit enough to finance a war but has capabilities to engage in battles. A war can't be won with IMF loans anyway. Fourth: The strategic patience and cultural restraint have a limit. That limit was tested on April 22 by the Lashkar Teyba terrorists. Perhaps they wanted what followed. They didn’t benefit from their adventure though. Perhaps they wanted to humiliate India publicly. They seem to be mentally stuck in 2008. Fifth: Size matters. Every inch of Pakistan was under reach. I always thought the Nur Khan airbase was the best defended base of Pakistan. It isn’t. The grarrison town of Rawilpindi as the heart of Pakistan’s military and its best-known airbase was hit. Sixth: Pakistan lost the monopoly over Islamic Fatwa. The Indian ulema presented a fatwa of their own to their own government. Thus, the religious dimension always exploited by Pakistan to earn sympathy from the Muslim Ummah evaporated. Deoband is located in India by the way. Seventh: Keeping secrets in a democratic society is next to impossible, but very little leaked out of India, which shows enormous skills in adhering to principles of operational silence and public unity to assist in safeguarding of secrets. Note: I have seen very little or no visuals from Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos to comment on. Seemingly, it never took off the way it was propagated. The ceasefire saved Pakistan’s skin. Pakistan military leadership has made statements and claims over their own achievements, but the Indian skies remained open, flights weren’t cancelled, and I haven’t seen visuals of missiles landing in Delhi or Amritsar.

Nuclear bluff has been called for once and all. Terrorism under nuclear umbrella can’t continue anymore. Disproportionate cost will be imposed for any future act of terror by Pakistan’s jehadi army. This is new normal.

How has India been so successful in thwarting Pakistani air operations? Well, Russia sold India the premier intermediate-range air defense system, the S-400. Thankfully, Modi didn’t cave to US pressure to avoid buying it under threat of sanctions. news18.com/india/how-modi…

If Pakistan is sensible it will offer token retaliation and then listen to world powers when they advocate peace. If it escalates the conflict then it must know that India has spent the last week gaming the situation & is ready with a full-fledged response. No Indian wants war . But we can handle it. On the other hand a full scale war will totally destroy the frail Pakistani economy & further discredit the Pakistan army. If it goes nuclear not only will it invite a terrible response but Pakistan will also become a collapsed state as regions secede and it will be an international pariah for generations. Even the Islamic world will shun it This is common sense. We know the Pakistan army is common. But I hope it has some sense

So last night paks tried to target some 15 military installations in india. The idea seems to have been to carry out a retaliatory attack but that remains under the threshold and becomes an off ramp. But India seems to have thwarted that attack and launched a proportionate counter attack which seems to have been fairly effective both in terms of messaging and in terms of its kinetics. The choice before Pakistan is now to either back down while threatening retaliation sometime later; or go up the ladder. But if they cause any damage then Indian response will be overwhelming and fierce and not proportionate. The proportionate part was only because there was no damage. Next time the response will be more severe. Problem for the illegitimate regime of the dictator Asim Munir and his chaprasi Shahbaz Sharif is that if they back down they can’t survive; if they escalate they won’t survive

TRUTH ABOUT INDIA and PAKISTAN! Let me break this down before the radical left-wing media spins more lies and the jihadis in America start crying and claiming victimhood, let’s get the facts straight. India Just Struck Back, Here’s Why: On May 7, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor, a decisive strike against terror camps within Pakistan-controlled territory. These weren’t random targets. India hit known Islamic terrorist hubs used to train and launch attacks against Indian civilians and soldiers. This wasn’t a drill. This was a calculated response to the Pahalgam Islamic massacre on April 22, 2025, when 27 Hindu tourists were executed in cold blood by terrorists backed by Pakistan. These innocent civilians....newlyweds, families, honeymooners...were forced to strip, recite Islamic prayers, and prove their religion. When they couldn’t, they were shot on sight. They were slaughtered for not being Muslim. Who Did India Target? India hit key terror camps belonging to three of Pakistan’s most notorious jihadist groups. These camps are the core infrastructure of Pakistan’s proxy war strategy against India, housing radical Islamist fighters who routinely infiltrate Kashmir and conduct attacks on Indian civilians and military personnel. 1. Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) A Deobandi jihadist group, JeM is known for carrying out some of the deadliest attacks on Indian soil, including the Pulwama attack (2019). It operates with direct support from Pakistan’s ISI and often functions openly in Pakistan. JeM openly advocates for violent jihad to separate Kashmir from India. JeM Targets Hit: Markaz Subhan Allah, Bahawalpur: A major training center for JeM militants, located in Punjab province, Pakistan. Known for recruiting, radicalizing, and arming jihadists. Sarjal, Tehra Kalan: A strategic base used for combat training and logistics, located in Pakistan-administered territory. Markaz Abbas, Kotli: A JeM hub involved in indoctrination and weapons training. Key for recruiting local youth for terrorist missions. Syedna Bilal Camp, Muzaffarabad: An operational base in the Muzaffarabad region, frequently used for launching cross-border attacks into Indian territory. 2. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) LeT is one of the most dangerous Islamist militant groups globally, responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed over 160 people, including foreign nationals. Despite being internationally condemned, LeT continues to operate under the guise of charity organizations and receives significant state support. LeT Targets Hit: Markaz Taiba, Muridke: The headquarters of LeT, openly functioning as a “charitable trust” while training militants for suicide missions. Markaz Ahle Hadith, Barnala: A LeT-affiliated center camouflaged as a religious and educational institution but actively involved in terror training. Shawai Nalla Camp, Muzaffarabad: A forward operating base for LeT, strategically located for cross-border incursions. Used for arms smuggling and militant training. 3. Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) HM is the largest Islamist militant group in Kashmir, heavily backed by Pakistan’s ISI. It aims to create separatist insurgency in Kashmir and is responsible for numerous attacks on both civilians and Indian security forces. HM Targets Hit: Mehmoona Joya, Sialkot: A logistics center for HM operations, located near the border, facilitating recruitment and weapon distribution. Maskar Raheel Shahid, Kotli: A training ground for urban warfare and guerrilla tactics. Essential for training new recruits before deployment into Kashmir. Why Did India Strike? Because Pakistan has been harboring, training, and equipping jihadists for decades. The Pahalgam massacre was the final straw, India had to respond to protect its citizens from state-sponsored terrorism. India’s response was not just justified...it was long overdue. Pakistan’s proxy war using terror groups has cost countless Indian lives. Pakistan’s Pathetic Propaganda After getting hit hard, Pakistan did what it does best: lie. Here’s how they tried to cover up their embarrassment: Claimed to have shot down Indian jets (no proof). Claimed to have attacked Srinagar Airport (shared a fake video from 2024). Claimed to have captured Indian soldiers (retracted by their own Defense Minister). Claimed missile strikes at 15 Indian locations (completely fabricated). Why Is Pakistan Panicking? Because they know the world is watching and their terror state status is under the spotlight. If Pakistan wasn’t a terror state, they’d be thanking India for eliminating jihadist breeding grounds. But NO they’re angry because they support terrorism. (All of the Pakistani Imam's in America like in America are ALSO angry - which our government should be monitoring) Instead of condemning the Pahalgam massacre, Pakistan is playing victim - spinning tales about nuclear threats and false flag operations. They’re desperate to look strong for their domestic audience, even if it means fabricating stories. Radical Left-Wing Media - Stop the Lies While Western journalists and Islamic apologists scramble to portray Pakistan as the victim, the truth is clear: India didn’t attack randomly - it targeted terror camps responsible for massacres. India is not the aggressor - it’s defending itself from decades of jihadist violence. Western media needs to wake up and stop glorifying terrorists just because they’re backed by Pakistan. To All the Jihadis Crying Victimhood in America: Enough with the fake victimhood narratives. You support Pakistan’s terrorism, you cry about Indian retaliation, but you never condemn the brutal killings of innocent Hindus. India is done being silent. The world sees Pakistan for what it is - A TERROR STATE!!! India’s Message to Pakistan: You can’t hide behind fake news and propaganda. You can’t cover up your terror state status. The world knows nd no amount of lies and victimhood will save you. To Everyone Else: Stay vigilant. Stay informed. Don’t buy the same old narrative that Pakistan is the victim when they are the architects of terrorism. Stand with India’s right to defend itself. AND GET PAKISTANI RADICALS OUT OF AMERICA!!!

#India-#Pakistan strikes. I don't have much to add atop public reporting, other than to say the situation with Pakistan serving as the Disneyland of terrorist groups is increasingly untenable. Either these groups are acting on behalf of the Pakistani state, in which case Islamabad is directly responsible for their actions. Or they are rogue actors (which no one believes), and the Pakistani state is still responsible for policing its borders and ensuring its territory isn't being used to launch attacks on other countries. Either way, if Pakistan doesn't take decisive action against these groups we'll be back here soon enough, risking another escalation spiral, and they'll have no to blame but themselves.
