@attikoz @winxytopia Wtf does it matter what it means to you as a south indian when it's not a word from South Indian languages? What YOU think doesn't change what it actually means. Sometimes it's okay to take a step back and admit something is wrong.

@attikoz @winxytopia Well in language dehaat means village. Your interpretation of it doesn't change the meaning. Using the term villager as an insult is not the point of pride you think it is.

well, to a south indian, it means people who can ONLY speak hindi (and refuse to learn any other language in the world english or local language) And it means migrating people, who force south indians to learn hindi, diminish or erase our own ancient languages with rich cultural history, art & literature, not to mention languages that have very little or nothing to do with sanskrit or north indian languages in origin so dehaat is probably here to stay and should be used derogatorily (imho)

@8RUTALIST @winxytopia Dehaat refers to village.Using dehati as an insult just means you think low of everyone who comes from a village background. Same like how people use bihari as an insult. Urban oppressing caste indian would not feel insulted by it, it would infact be used by them to be casteist.

@winxytopia "Dehaat" isn't inherently classist, the way it's used can be. People who are proudly dehaati are often rich upper cast landowners in North India.

@gh0stie_cs @brown_book_bug I completed agree w that!! Indians abroad hold responsibility towards their community which they sometime only claim for aesthetics while actually throwing us under the bus. Pahalgam incident exposed so much😭😭

@brown_book_bug That is true. Diaspora tends to not care abt issues back home but my point is how us natives whack them for everything. Like sometimes it's valid but ppl acting like diaspora should be even more vocal then indians themselves fries me. A lot of their topics are important too

@rainhrs I realise their struggles are different but their platform as an Indian cannot magically matter when they want to prove how oppressed their lives are but not matter when others ask them to talk about the real problems in their country of origin
