Jake, thank you for your analysis. — Foreign boots have too often entrenched the systems they claim to dismantle, reinforcing elite capture, distorting incentives, and allowing armed groups to reconstitute under new arrangements of power. Stability cannot be imported. It must be built through legitimate institutions, accountable governance, and an economy that offers participation instead of exclusion. More weapons may shift the map temporarily. Only legitimacy, justice, and economic inclusion can redraw it permanently.
Jake Johnston@JakobJohnston

The first foreign troops from the US-backed "Gang Suppression Force" arrived in Haiti this morning. As I wrote in @thenation (link in reply), this latest intervention seems more likely to perpetuate the crisis than stop it. To build something new, Haiti doesn’t need war. It needs peace.

Haiti will not be rebuilt by the loud. It will be rebuilt by the competent, the disciplined, and the incorruptible minority — whether visible or not.

Mr. Castillo, “External reconstruction” without local sovereignty is inherently unstable. Without Haitian institutional ownership, “1x7 PLUS” will become another cycle of managed failure. Your assessment also overlooks a fundamental reality: Hispaniola is not geopolitically divisible. Labor markets are intertwined, trade flows are constant, and migration pressures are structural. Geography does not yield to policy preference. It imposes consequences. Finally, Haiti is not a void to be administered. It is a nation with untapped institutional capacity, a powerful diaspora, and the ability to reconfigure its political and economic trajectory. To frame it otherwise is not analysis. It is wickedness. The path forward is not distance, but disciplined cooperation grounded in sovereignty, responsibility, and mutual stability.
Pelegrin Castillo.@pelegrinc

Nations do not succeed through endless debate. They succeed through systems that make progress inevitable. What is being built next door proves something undeniable: speed is possible, financing is possible, execution is possible. The question is no longer if. The question is: when will we decide to become serious about our own future?

The psychological framing of power is rare in political writing. Most political texts argue about structures. Here @ralfrho traces leadership back to survival, trauma, humiliation, and conditioning. He moves the conversation from policy failure to inner formation.

It requires bold leadership to reform the political landscape in Haiti. But we, too, can establish a political system centered around diverse ideas that benefit the country. In The Weight of My Dream, I elucidate how a three-party platform system can mitigate inconsistencies during our presidential elections.

Haiti’s crisis is real, but Haiti is not a problem to be managed; it is a nation to be rebuilt. Gangs thrive where institutions collapse and prolonged foreign interference distorts accountability. Security assistance may help stabilize the moment, but lasting order will come from rebuilding a capable Haitian state that restores the rule of law and economic hope for its people. Many of us preparing to lead Haiti’s next democratic chapter are ready for that work. Haiti needs partnership, not guardianship.
Ambassador Mike Waltz@USAmbUN

Brutal Gang leaders have taken over Haiti, right off our shores. America shouldn't have to act alone to stop the chaos. Our neighbors have an interest and responsibility to help us stop violence in Haiti as the gangs traffic drugs and thugs into the U.S., Europe, and South America. This is why we created the Gang Suppression Force - with UN backing - to restore order.

Entansyon an ka byen sensè, epi fristrasyon dèyè l la ta sanble lejitim, men agiman w lan, ak kèlkeswa elokans ou fòmile l, chita sou yon bann sipozisyon foulay, sosyalman danjere, epi paradoksalman k ap agrave pwòp izolman lengwistik ou pretann vle rezoud la. Nou dwe konsantre nou sou transfòme kreyòl, bay lang lan jarèt pou l kontinye devlope epi satisfè demann lokitè l yo. Pa yon lang pèpè oswa yon senp kòd domestik, men pouse l kòm yon vrè veyikil pou lavi entelektyèl ak sivik kominote kreyolofòn yo ak mond lan. Se sa estrateji a dwe ye. Sa vle di pwodwi manyèl eskolè ak akademik an kreyòl, mennen diskou ak deba politik an kreyòl, finanse literati ak lasyans an kreyòl, elatriye… menm jan yon seri òganizasyon, kreyatè kontni ak pedagòg ap eseye fè l.

It's always remarkable what can happen when old allies meet again. The chess pieces are moving. A quiet reckoning is coming. The kind that doesn't announce itself. Pay attention. Fall River will not perish.

Mr. President, remembering Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez also means remembering the full truth of his life: he was of Haitian descent. His journey reminds us that the struggle for dignity and democratic participation in our region has often been carried by people whose identities bridged the histories of both nations on this island. Honoring his legacy, therefore, is not only a tribute to a Dominican leader, but also a quiet reminder that the ideals of democracy, justice, and human dignity transcend the divisions that history has too often placed between our peoples.
Luis Abinader@luisabinader

Rete veyatif !

Before you count our people, count your role in why they left. You have destabilized our governments, occupied our country for 19 years, supported dictators when it served your interests, and provided aid that fostered dependency rather than infrastructure development. Now, you propose to exploit our suffering as a campaign slogan? We will not submit to a graphic designed to dehumanize us. Instead, I extend you this promise: my generation will construct a Haiti so robust, self-sufficient, and undeniable that the sole occasion our name appears in your politics will be when you are seeking our collaboration.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

American dollars should NOT be used to subsidize foreign economies. Four years of open borders under the Biden Administration allowed 6% of ALL Haitians to enter our country ILLEGALLY. Many of these Haitians sent remittances back to their home country — making up 20% of Haiti’s ENTIRE ECONOMY and taking $6.1 BILLION from America. We will keep fighting to end this. Under @POTUS Trump and @Sec_Noem, our top priority is to put the safety and prosperity of the American people FIRST.
