This is Abel Sorzor. You know him as the machete-wielding thug whose face is now seared into Melbourne's memory as the symbol of Jacinta Allan's failed machete ban and Victoria's collapsing justice system.
After turning Northland Shopping Centre into a battlefield in May, Sorzor should have been locked up. Instead, Magistrate John Bentley, a judge so shielded from scrutiny no photo of him exists online, handed him a farcical sentence: 100 hours of community work, a curfew, and a laughable ban from Northland Shopping Centre.
Four months later, a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old were murdered by machete-wielding thugs in Melbourne's western suburbs. Police immediately linked the attack to the same gang violence Bentley had ignored. Sorzor (pictured), the man Bentley freed, was charged with murdering one of the kids.
Now Sorzor faces trial. Families of the murdered kids are grieving. Residents in Melbourne's suburbs no longer feel safe. And Magistrate Bentley? Remains faceless, his anonymity a perfect metaphor for the accountability he dodges. He is hidden behind a system that protects him while he unleashes murderers on the community.
The justice system isn't meant to protect you from killers like Sorzor; it is meant to protect judges like John Bentley from people like you.

@astaf_gorilla I actually agree with this. bidets in public toilets often lead to wet disgusting floors and toilets.
English

Fun fact, sg's lack of bidets is actually not totally because of the reason most ppl think. Apparently in discussions of cleanliness and upkeep, the authorities decided that public access to water in cubicles would make public toilets wet and thus unhygienic (mould, bacteria etc)

Seriously, I don't understand Singapore - I can go to the public unis of the abovenamed countries and find bidets but not NUS.... probably for mandilah Singapura reasons
