For those hitting the ocean and waves this summer. This is really simple. You can spot a rip current. Unfortunately, it's where it looks easiest and safest to enter the sea. This is because the rip current is looping around and pulling back OUT. Hence no waves rolling IN. NEVER ENTER THE SEA HERE. If you are already in the sea and get caught in a rip current (you'll know because you will suddenly be moved from your location and it will be impossible to swim against it) don't panic. Swim ACROSS, not against the rip current. For example, rather than trying to swim to shore while being pushed out, swim parallel to the beach and you will be able to get out. Then you can swim ashore. Please educate friends or family visiting the beaches this summer. Stay safe 🙏🛟🏖️

Here is my real issue with many of these TikTok-y tax strategies: Many have a grain of truth to them (see: hiring your kids) but the real work needed by ordinary taxpayers to ensure compliance often exceeds the "win." Don't chase a #tax benefit, chase a sound financial decision.

@taxgirl A few lawyers try to. A client engaged me to update her trust documents. Her original documents were prepared by an attorney in Nevada. She has always lived in Texas, never in Nevada, but a lawyer there drafted Texas documents for her. They were a mess.

I'm getting a lot of old-school phone calls from potential clients looking for tax/estate planning. It's not only a good idea to seek out someone in your state, it's required: lawyers can't draft EP docs where they aren't licensed. (For good reason: much of EP is state-specific.)
