@thomasmahler I do NOT like damage numbers being displayed. IMO it feels “arcadey” and can ruin the immersion/art direction. It tends to become repetitive visual clutter and is redundant once you know dmg. Health bars less so, particularly for bosses as it’s the only one on screen.

Internally, I made the argument that games are always better if players have as direct feedback as possible. And floating damage numbers and healthbars do exactly that: - Damage Numbers tell me exactly how much damage each action dealt - Healthbars show me exactly how much progress I made towards the enemies demise So, how do people generally feel about this stuff? Are you in favor of damage numbers and health bars or against it?

@Cromwelp @mrhardcoremode God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West. Both were a greatest hits of video game tropes imo (QTE’s, shimmying between cracks in the wall, cutscenes carry the narrative load, play as the companion, etc). To me, what CD is doing is just more fun, not dissimilar to Elden Ring

Crimson Desert is fun to play, but it is such a cynical amalgamation of borrowed mechanics. It is Now That's What I Call Gaming plucked off a gas station shelf, for better & worse. Expect a lot more of this in premium & F2P. There is less risk in it.

@HoegLaw @TieGuyTravis Just my opinion, but I think comparing two wildly different games like that is unproductive and unnecessarily divisive. “Better” is just relative and subjective. “At what?” and “for whom?” are what matter. Both can be great in their own way.

See, I know @TieGuyTravis, so I know the secret reason that Marathon got a much better score than Crimson Desert…It’s because Marathon is a much better game.

@JeremyPenter I love it so far. Definitely has a bit of a learning curve, but I like that about it. Feels complex and deep but rewarding and fun. Excited to play more, and that’s really what matters after all.

So far what do you think of Crimson Desert if you are playing?

@BoomstickAlex Dude it gives you control over your character immediately. Feels like a statement of intent, and I’m here for it! 10/10 for that alone lol, but seriously, so far gives me KCD meets Dragon’s Dogma vibes. Complex and deep, but rewarding and fun.

All we want is an adult themed open world Zelda/Elden Ring/RDR2/Skyrim/Witcher 3 mashup of kinds. Which this has all the makings to be. Even if it's not extremely polished at release. Also sounds like they plan on adding more to it. If I get 7/10 of all of those, I'd be thrilled. No hand holding, open world, unlimited traversal, tough bosses, puzzles, decent side quests, lots of exploring and hidden things to find, side activities that aren't necessary but you can get lost in, etc. Hope the next Star Wars is like that as well. Need a new KOTOR in the same vein.

It’s a bit disturbing to see how many players were insanely hyped for Crimson Desert until today and how quickly opinions have shifted now - hell, I think most people saw it as the potential new Elden Ring 😳 But now the reviews have come in and it sits on a 78 on Metacritic. And to most gamers, that means it’s pretty much a waste of time. But then I listened to @ForceStrategy’s breakdown, a reviewer who’s usually spot on, and he had a ton of good things to say about it - as long as you come in with the right expectations. It was honestly quite silly to expect the team that was in charge of BDO to build the next Elden Ring… but based on what Force was saying, I could easily see them still turning things around. I think in general I love the games industry for of how passionate everyone is about games - but it also feels like games get overhyped so often that it’s becoming a bit ridiculous… So… give them some time. There’s definitely something interesting going on with Pearl Abyss. For some reason, they know how to generate a ton of hype. I remember how insanely excited people were about DokeV when they showed a trailer at Gamescom a few years back. So I’d say… chill and let’s see how they’re reacting to this feedback. Will definitely be interesting to follow! 👍

@PigeonGoGaming @MrStarfield22 I wasn’t a huge fan of the companions (and actually prefer fantasy), but overall I really enjoyed my 200 hours and have been playing since Morrowind. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Maybe it just didn’t resonate with you. When opinions are so divided, it’s usually just a matter of taste/perspective.

@LukeStephens In my experience, creatives are less cynical than consumers. There’s nothing wrong with being excited about possibilities and trying out new things. Ease up on the pearl-clutching everybody, and let’s just wait and see. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@tyminski_marek Unedited gameplay for sure. I don’t want to be sold a game, I just want to know what it is. The more cutscenes and quick-cuts there are, the more I feel like potentially weak gameplay is being hidden for marketing purposes.
