@mysteriouskat It changes it a lot....Nolan wouldnt use "orchestral music" because "something something time period" But his use of American vernacular is arguably far more jarring Honestly - I would've preferred if it had subtitles. Ask any anime fan which way feels better and more authentic

@rapterj Yes it changes things a fair bit, but when we study the text we don't do it in the original language either unless someone is some special scholar. I read a translation in old English. If we were to watch it now in the original, we'd be reading subtitles anyway.

I'm just outraged that The Odyssey isn't being performed in its original Homeric Greek. So freaking woke.

Little House on the Prairie showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine said she's addressing things that are "problematic" in the books: “It’s 2026 — it’s time to reckon with some of the things that are in the books that have been problematic for people. I don’t want people to throw away these books … They’re amazing books. It’s OK to reckon with them a little bit and also tell a really good story about people being able to change … changing your mind is a good thing.” Why do these people feel the need to lecture audiences like this?

I just got home from watching The Odyssey. A year ago, my one worry about Nolan’s adaptation was that “defy the gods” marketing tagline. Homer’s poem was not about defiance. It’s about a man who breaks a sacred law and spends the rest of his life answering for it. If the film didn’t capture that, I’d say so. I’m thrilled to report that Nolan understood the assignment. This is fundamentally a film in which men are answerable to an order they did not author and cannot escape, and violating it costs them everything. Few modern films carry that kind of metaphysical weight anymore, and it was a genuine pleasure to see those values dramatized on screen. The scale invites comparisons with Lean’s masterpieces, and the performances from Damon, Hathaway, Pattinson, and Leguizamo are superb. A few choices in the sound mix and photography occasionally threw me off, but never enough to sink the experience. In short, this is a magnificent epic that respects Homer’s moral universe. It’s a film any conservative serious about cultural inheritance ought to appreciate. Those who spent months denouncing it as “woke” were reviewing the tweets they read, not the actual film, and they’ve told you precisely how much to trust them on everything else.

Tonight, the epic arrives. Experience Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in theaters. Get tickets now.

Getting rid of convicted child sex abusers does, in fact, make people safer. Weird that Tim Walz is arguing otherwise.
Rapid Response 47@RapidResponse47

.@GovTimWalz responds to the deportation of a convicted child sex abuser he pardoned: "Did that make us any safer?... Did it improve the idea that we can't all be judged by our worst day?" Walz is one seriously sick, depraved individual.

@1080penguin @mysteriouskat The entities that examined the fraud claims were the same ones that downplayed or outright dismissed the Wuhan Lab that same year. Theres a difference between accepting a formally issued result and believing it - and this query is framed to deliberately minimize that distinction

There's a reason why the nominee for Director of National Intelligence won't answer a simple question. And it's not because he doesn't know the answer. It's because he knows what would happen if he answers honestly.

@mysteriouskat Definitely not. A. Just ask deaf or blind people. B. You are fed an interpretation with audio that isnt there with words. C. I like how the characters look, sound, and exist in the world in my head far better than any movie or audio track has ever done.

The layoffs need to happen from over hiring. But replacing them with ai and outsourcing isnt the way. But the aggressive selling to xbox led to this. May it be a learning lesson to future studio heads. Smart ones will not sell out with unfavorable terms. Always control your IP. Better to go out ruining your work on your own terms as a potential future if shit hits the fan than it be due to who you sold out to.

Thousands of Xbox fans are using Microsoft’s Xbox Player Voice website to urge the company to stop layoffs and studio closures. The post has become one of the most popular on the platform, with thousands of players supporting it. Fans say the constant layoffs are hurting the people who make Xbox games and could affect the quality of future releases. They want Microsoft to support its studios, stop cutting jobs, and be more open about its plans.
