Behind the scenes at the DFB, there are increasing signs that Julian Nagelsmann could include Manuel Neuer in his World Cup squad. The topic has been, and continues to be, discussed far more intensely and controversially internally than Nagelsmann is willing to portray publicly. FC Bayern are also aware of that. On Monday, the DFB had to submit a preliminary list of 55 players to FIFA, including at least five goalkeepers. The list is not publicly available, but it can be assumed that Neuer's name is on it, along with those of Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen, and Jonas Urbig Both Nagelsmann and Neuer have repeatedly insisted that they maintain a good relationship and are in regular contact. The significant tensions that Nagelsmann, then Bayern coach, caused in January 2023 during Neuer's serious leg injury by dismissing his long-time confidant Toni Tapalovic have long since been resolved.
