I wonder if anyone is considering #zfs as *the* cross platform fs on external usb drives, e.g. where goo^Wbad old fat32 is not an option. What are/would you use across win-linux-osx?

> at Sun, ZFS was driven by the techies, initially, they hid the fact that the project was taking place, not asking the opinion of the finance and sales teams. And so ZFS had a lot of very innovative technologies that pushed the industry forward Ted Ts'o, @mit.edu/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">lore.kernel.org/lkml/202307070…

FP devs are too obsessed with representing effects on the type level (as type parameters). Instead, they can rip the most benefits w/o so many drawbacks by representing effects on the value level (as constructors of an algebraic data type).

For people who remember why @mxcl (homebrew) didn't get into Google, or the help-me-thread of @zloirock (corejs) Meet the creator of autoconf and a big chunk of GNU coreutils: youtube.com/watch?v=D7vfI-… - doesn't look like a millionaire - has proud "226 views" after 1 month 😭

What was your age when you realized that new "shiny" #rails turbo-stream response is slightly more declarative version of format.rjs from 10yrs ago 🙂 For somebody too young (13 years ago!) to remember RJS in rails 2: api.rubyonrails.org/v2.3.8/classes…

During iterations we almost never use the whole object state at once: given A(p1,p2,p3): [a1, a2].map(a => f(a.p1, a.p2)) why do allocators usually pack p1+p2+p3 and don't behave like a column-oriented: p1[] = [a1.p1, a2.p1] p2[] = [a1.p2, a2.p2] p3[] = [a1.p3, a2.p3]

A status is just a fact in the object's history that some process happened with/to the object Store the transition fact in db, only denormalise "status" for batch performance p.s. Tell me if there's a book, which talk about such stuff

A "status" field on a business entities is a trap: STM only works in "living" → "dead" way: rules cannot be changed, no loops possible - business changes processes -> in the end every status will be possible from others - state "B" is different below: A → B ⇄ C A → B
