If you did something shameful in the past, you should be ashamed of that and keep it private. You dont get a medal, people will keep bringing it up. Remember, controversy is currency today. All these mentions and clicks make them lots of money. These people love money more than their honor and family intimacy. I said the comparison between Europeans colonising and forcing American Natives to convert to Christianity and the spread of Christianity in Europe, are total different things.
