@doctor_oxford @ianbirrell I've changed my mind on this. However much palliative care improves, when someone you love has a terminal illness it's possible for them to enjoy what time they have left but that's much harder if the prospect of a long and painful death hangs over them.

Like him, I am an atheist. But I witness daily the avoidable suffering endured by patients not receiving the palliative care they need. And I think it is unconscionable to offer citizens a choice to die if we fail to offer them the care that can make life worth living. #AssistedDying
