I look back and think I didn't know squat about hitting just one year ago and hope that I can say the same a year from now. #learn #evolve

Participation trophies take the heat but the biggest issue is that awards are handed out every weekend you play. Kids are taught early to play for something other than the love of the game, pride, etc. It’s “what do we get if we win?” Play horrible? Another chance next weekend.

@mikemayer22 The minority is quite often correct as you are here. People really think guys are more willing to play when it’s gonna add to their workload? And the orgs would be ok with this!?!? Dumbest thing I’ve heard. There’s no ideal time but ST is the best option.

@BodzinPitching Would love to see what the ramp-up looked like for those guys as well as their throwing routines between outings. Seems like too many guys go from 0 to 100 to 0 often without any plan at all.

This goes for HS arms too. Why are we seeing freshman and jv level arms throw 100 pitches every week? Not a scout on earth is watching that game and you’re going to burn an arm before they can get to summer? There needs to be a logical pitch count situation for kids like that in the spring.

People I hate…. 1. Those who don’t return shopping carts 2. Coaches who have said “he’s just a competitor! He wouldn’t let me take him out! He wanted the ball!” to excuse letting a 12yr old throw 150 pitches in a weekend. Hey, puss! You just got Type A’d by a kid. Grow a pair.

Zone but have never been called a strike in the history of baseball ex. the SL that catches the bottom gloveside corner that a catcher is receiving so low and away it’s never even presented to the umpire.

Am I crazy for having this thought about ABS? The top of the zone should be measured at the front of the plate and the bottom of the zone should be measured at the mid-point of the plate. That would help minimize the “outlier” pitches that tech shows catch a piece of the….

@TJHannam10 And if you realize that you might give yourself some more grace. Young hitters will put so much pressure on themselves to “figure it out” and don’t accept that no one ever has. It’s just about getting a little better every day.

@TJHannam10 Man I have this talk all the time. The other one, and I had it with a group of high schoolers this weekend, is that even big leaguers miss in the cage. If you’ve never taken BP with a big leaguer you tend to believe they’re perfect and don’t mishit anything. They do….

Gunnar Henderson - Cage Work - High School, 2nd round pick (AL) - I love showing HS clips of MLB hitters for PERSPECTIVE to current HS or College hitters - Many times the elite qualities are there but it's not polished, 'perfect' yet like it is when they're in MLB

@CoachJeffLeach But it’s just instinctively an entirely different level of passion when it’s “something you’ve got” vs “all you’ve got.” I wanted Team USA to win but I’m happy for Venezuela and especially my Venezuelan friends!

@CoachJeffLeach Oddly enough tbh I wasn’t as invested in us winning the WBC as I was the hockey gold medal. I was rooting for us but when you have every advantage in the world it’s a little less inspiring. I’m not gonna be one of those who act like Team USA didn’t care. Clearly they did….

@CoachJeffLeach I would 1000% believe and accept that but they literally said he was available during the pre-game. They didn’t list conditions like they did with Palencia.

@CoachJeffLeach This whole thing has been managed poorly. I know there are certain limitations but that’s not an excuse for a lot of these decisions.

How in THEEEEE hell do you not PH with Raleigh right there!?!? Chance to tie the game in the 7th with one swing? You that worried about using your second C at that point?

@MrMaxPrice Hell I used to have to put them together at the D1 level and would think they were largely a waste. Little different with the tech now but what the heck info is GC really gonna tell you with the vast difference in competition among other variables.

@rcandy24 Agreed. The problem with HS “scouting reports” is that they don’t account - at all - for the opposing pitcher, the defense, etc. The stats alone are mostly useless.

@BrightWxCane @jjcoop36 They don’t care about the injuries as much as the fans do. If they can replace a hard thrower with another hard thrower they’d rather do that than have a stable of healthy soft tossers. That’s just reality.

@jjcoop36 Yes but you don’t necessarily have to throw hard. Look at Maddox and Moyer. Pitchers like that may actually be more effective now that there’s even more contrast with the hard throwers. Btw, all of the injuries aren’t good.

Why do college coaches focus on recruiting and developing velocity in pitchers? Because here is how hitters hit against all D-I pitchers in 2025 grouped by their avg fastball velocity. baseballamerica.com/stories/are-co…

I can’t be the only one who feels a move to the bullpen may be beneficial for both the Mets and Manaea.
