๐จFYI: Gavin Newsom has already signed California Assembly Bill 1043 which mandates that operating systems including Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD implement system-level age (identity) verification. This takes effect on January 1st, 2027. Colorado also has a similar act called SB26-051 which is currently advancing through the committees and ready for full Senate consideration. It would come into effect on January 1st, 2028 if passed. Utah, Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama all currently have app layer verification laws, but not OS level YET. So OS level verification isn't a future thing. It's happening now. They are chokepointing the internet. Enjoy these days.

See this? This means it's working. This is something we can consider a win, but it's still not enough. Unless Discord oficially states to never use ID verification or face scans ever again, I will still fight, and I encourage you to do the same.
And remember why this is happening in the first place, Discord is not the main culprit, governments are, bills that force social medias to control children will result in ID verification. The only way to control children on the internet should be with parental tools on their devices, not on social medias themselves.
Even if Discord backs down completly, discordless.com will still be running, because I think it's better to switch to decentralized options to not let this situation happen again.

Countries are passing laws requiring state ID in order to use social media ("protecting kids" is the pretext), but the real effect is to track everyone online . It upsets some when I say it, but @TaylorLorenz has been one of the few reporting on and warning about this danger.

Arizona House AI & Technology Committee has amended HB 2311, making it more expansive and including
ZERO data privacy protections
ZERO limits on what data can be collected
ZERO retention requirements
ZERO restrictions on biometric ID
ZERO rules for 3rd party sharing
The amended bill sweeps in almost every AI service you can think of, including travel, banking, and retail chatbots.
This bill fits right in with the national trend of de facto Digital ID policies framed as a way to "protect kids and empower parents" - it does neither.
It is Big Government surveillance.

In an alarming development, 40 state Attorneys General are urging Congress to pass the Kids Online Safety Act.
