Hard agree. I think the takeaway is as much aesthetic as political. Feeding the (final?) collapse in trust of these institutions after making your case about their importance is not a good look. In part because he set himself up by still talking like it was 1988. "Where's the outrage?" was the unspoken campaign slogan of Biden, which Harris at least tried to get away from.
