@EntoTranslator This is a German/Austrian locality. I do know “See” is German for “Lake”. Does that help anyone?

At work, Robin Delapena spends her time digitizing our insect collection. Outside of the office, she’s working equally hard for bugs, planning and planting her native pollinators garden.

Here's a peek at those arresting eyespots from one of our insects experts and collections digitization specialist, Robin Delapena.

Good eye! Literally. It's a Polyphemus silk moth, aka Antheraea polyphemus, named for the Greek cyclops with one eye. It has eyespots on the hind wings (not seen here) that look like they're wearing eyeshadow 👁

@FieldMuseum my summer campers saw this butterfly/moth at a park in Lombard..Don't know what it is but it was huge! Can I have some help identifying it?

"Insects get such a bad rap. People don't realize they play such an integral role in our existence. We NEED them. If we were wiped out, they would have no problem surviving without us. The reverse isn't true."

The Field Museum has one of the world's best collections of insects (anywhere between 15-20 million specimens!). And now @FieldMuseum's new exhibit lets visitors get up close and personal with all sorts of creepy-crawlies. LISTEN LIVE: WBEZ.org + 91.5FM

@EntoTranslator could you please figure out the collector’s last name? It’s Philadelphia, May 1887.

That’s my girl Olivia. She’s just beautiful! She was the one of the highlights of the evening! So glad I could share her with our members :) #fieldmembersnight twitter.com/geekmelange/st…
Michi: Adorable Tiny Demon 🔥🇵🇭🇺🇸🍜📖🦄@GeekMelange

Meet the orchid mantis. She is delicate, gorgeous, and a rare occurrence at #FieldMembersNight apparently. Getting to explore the insect & botany research depts behind the scenes at the Field Museum was AMAZING.
