Two of the toughest guys I have ever known. Front row kneeling on the right, my Dad, sitting behind him on the far right, his best friend and my godfather. They survived Kasserine in North Africa, D Day, the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes, and then into Germany. About half the guys in this photo did not survive. I have this photo in on my desk. Whenever I am thinking my day sucks, I just look at this and it’s a reminder that things could be worse. This photo was taken somewhere in France. I look at my Dad and he looks 40, he was actually 23 at the time. We owe them so much.

This is a post I never thought I’d have to make… It has come to my attention that some among us actually prefer boiled hot dogs over grilled. Who hurt you?

Before SUVs, our 70s station wagon was my childhood rollercoaster-rear-facing seat, no seatbelts, and every turn felt like a trust fall. Mom tossed snacks like she was feeding seagulls, Dad drove like he was late for roll call, and me? | learned quick-brace, slide, repeat. Pretty sure that wagon built tougher kids than half the gyms today. 😂

Making a right hand turn on to Eastern from Sunset on my way to work at National Airlines in Las Vegas NV. When I finally got out to the gates, I think we had about 5-6 B-757’s inbound to Vegas that morning from the East Coast, I went down to dispatch and they could not contact any of them. It was a tense morning not knowing what was happening to our friend’s and co-workers. We eventually got word that they were diverted all over the place. I was in a rage for a few days not understanding why we hadn’t nuked anyone yet. One nuke on Mecca after that would have solved a lot of problems over the next 2 decades.

🔥Having one of these in high school meant you were basically a celebrity in the parking lot. 🔥 The rumble of a Mach 1 pulling in… the chrome wheels, louvers, hood scoop, and everyone turning to look before class even started. 🚗 What year was your favorite?🤩

16, and my parents tried to talk me out of it. It was a 1970 Mustang Mach 1. They tried to give me my dad’s old 4 door 1964 Impala. I finally talked them in to co-signing the loan. They were right, it ate me alive. I got into trouble with it, speeding tickets, etc. And after making the $80 a month payment on it, I was basically broke my entire time in high school with my part time $35 a week job at Burger Chef. But you know what? I wouldn’t have traded that experience for anything. I had a blast with it, no regrets. 😀

I guess that I was just pointing out that some of the people calling the individual a “dumb ass”, are being a little harsh. We don’t know who this kid is, he/she might just be the person they have to call someday to repair something they can’t. And they are going to pay this person dearly for what that “dumb ass” does know. I was the same way, didn’t pay attention in English class, I was more interested in the girls in that class. (Maybe that’s where my son gets it from) 🤣 I am of the belief, that it doesn’t matter what you do, if you enjoy what you do, you will be successful at it. It won’t be like a job. I went the same route. I barely got through High School, went into the military after graduation, and when I got out, went to school and got my A&P License. I became an Aircraft Mechanic. That was almost 40 years ago. And it’s been a good career. I have enjoyed every day a work. Although not as much now, because I am in management. But for a guy that didn’t go to college, I think I did OK. I own a waterfront home in Florida with a pool and my boat steps away in my backyard. Most of the people I went to school with many of them went on to college, ask me how I did this, they say they can’t afford to live in this neighborhood. I just tell them I did what I like, and it worked out. That’s all.

@realFishchaser I get where you're coming from and I completely agree about college is not for everyone. In fact we need many more learning a trade. But this should be something you learn in elementary school. More than likely, the parent wrote this anyway.

@japan_nobunaga Yes, long standing tradition and a god given right in the US, that will never be taken away from us, even though there are those that would try. They will fail in the end.

Hello from Japan 🇯🇵👋 I have a question for Americans 🇺🇸🙋 I've never seen a real gun in my life. Only in anime and movies. Is it true that Americans sometimes see guns at stores like Walmart? In Japan, we only see them on TV. Is that normal in America? 🤔

I just spent the morning replacing a failed control panel and a new igniter in my Pit Boss Smoker. The panel is updated and so is the smoker. The igniter was not the same as the original one, I had to make some modifications to mount it. But the grill is working like new and is smoking a Pork Butt as we speak. It felt good to be a mechanic again, even if it was just a BBQ smoker, and not a Boeing 757. I miss it working at a desk now. And saving about $800 by not having to buy a new grill didn’t hurt either. 😀

My dryer broke, instead of going out and buying a new one, I bought a 16$ replacement part and fixed it myself. How many people out here today can say honestly they are fixing there things instead of tossing them and buy a new one.
