I believed he deserved it over Vini, it was a bias for exciting attacking players that made many feel Vini deserved it. Bellingham was even a more deserved winner than Vini that year in my opinion.
I love when these awards are not centered on attackers really, so Rodri winning this is also good but I do feel overall Messi or Kylian still deserved this more.

I am always one to say awards should not always be about goals and I don’t even like Messi but he deserves this way more than Rodri.
Spain was a very balanced team and you can’t pick Rodri as the tournaments stand out player.

The double standards are hilarious.
I’m seeing plenty of United fans (anti-Messi bias) and the entire population of X City fans (all six of them 😅) defending Rodri winning Player of the Tournament over Messi, Mbappé, or Bellingham despite the record breaking tournaments those three had.
Yet these are the very same people who argued Bruno Fernandes deserved Premier League Player of the Year because he topped the assist charts while finishing third and 14 points behind first oh.
But when Declan Rice was the driving force behind Arsenal winning the league, suddenly team success and overall influence didn’t matter anymore.
The inconsistency is remarkable.
