I work at EF. We back people before they have a cofounder, before they have an idea, sometimes before they even believe they can build a company. I've watched hundreds of people go through this process. Starting to share what I see.

The applications for the next cohort starting in August are live!!
Mokshit Naidu@MokshitNaidu

@join_ef just kicked off one of its biggest cohorts ever last week. After spending the last 6 months carefully selecting and curating every individual in this batch, I now get to work closely with ~100 exceptional folks coming together to build from scratch.

Last year, 10% of @join_EF's seed rounds were led by Founders Fund, Benchmark, Index, or Khosla. Want to meet the next generation of break out companies? Check out the link in the comments.

11/ What I'd want for a real version, in order of importance: 1. Paid corporate-data access (Tofler/Probe42) to pull financials for unlisted donors - Megha, Future Gaming, Quick Supply etc. 2. Scrape the GeM portal for contract awards - gives a direct measure of "did donating buy government business?" 3. Propensity score matching to pick non-donor controls systematically rather than by hand 4. Pre-registered DiD specification before running regressions - the discipline that separates a finding from a fishing expedition

10/ My conclusion: the access hypothesis is alive and worth a full study, but mostly in sectors where it should theoretically matter most.

1/ I was curious whether firms that bought electoral bonds for the eventual ruling party actually grew faster than non-donors, so I ran a pilot on 57 listed Indian firms across 6 sectors (FY20→FY24). The answer turns out to depend almost entirely on the sector. 🧵
