How @join_ef now works: 1. We find you in Europe, India or the US. 2. We select you based on your founder potential. 3. You join one of our programmes in London, Paris, Bangalore or SF. 4. If not already in SF, we help you re-locate to San Francisco to raise your seed round

Such fun - thank you @david__booth!
David Booth@david__booth

A few weeks ago we packed 15 families - 29 parents & their collective 37 kids - into a giant 18-bedroom house in Tahoe, and hosted a super fun "un-conference" style retreat/gathering. very casual... social thing. run with/for friends. But thanks to an epic support crew of nannies and @Alphaschool guides, all were able to participate- most facilitate a session of some kind.. some personal, some professional, some family subjects, e.g - "building a company with your spouse" ft @clairevo & @elawless, @hsambhi & @rosie_chopra + others - @jessegenet on running her homeschool + household with local AI agents (including live appearances from the kids) -@mbateman and @nateliason on "how to start a school" - @adamgries on longevity & AI, how to live forever - @Gena_I_Gorlin on the psychology of ambition - plus "building connection" for busy married couples. - - @immad's philosophical takes on "what is money" - and raising kids to have positive relationships with it. - - @ketau on “when agents spend more than humans” / future biz models + ad supported AI - @ellenvoramd and @vimalspot on "Modern Spirituality" - building spiritual families, deep dive from Ellen on "the Anatomy of Anxiety" - also - @TomHacohen on Privacy, security, AI & and the internet; @Alicebentinck on how to spot talent, @petergyang on building distribution; life on the road and cultural immersion with @rieglobe, @abatalion & others. This was round two — first was back in 2023. Probably not going to wait three years to do it again. Maybe east coast later this year? 👀

Following the amazing reaction to the Marble Curriculum yesterday, we've decided to make it open source 🛰️👇 Everything a child learns in primary school. 1,590 concepts. 3,221 connections across 8 subjects, from Math and Science to Computing and Life Skills. Anchored in the US and UK curriculums, standard by standard (NGSS, Common Core, DfE). What you will find in the repo: every concept as structured JSON with its age band and the evidence a child must show to master it. Every prerequisite link marked hard or soft, with a written rationale. It's a true DAG you can compute learning paths on. Open license, you can build whatever you want with it. Now is a unique time in history to be building in education. Getting AI and kids education right is likely one of the hardest and most important problems to crack over the next decade and we need as many smart and creative minds behind it. We think a common solid basis, accessible to all and that can be built upon, is critical to move fast. That's why we're making this curriculum open source. It's not perfect but we know it's a robust basis, and we believe that sharing it openly is the fastest way to progress in this field. If you're building in education, share this around you and tell us in comments if you find this useful and if you want to contribute. We'll keep working and investing on it @withmarbleapp. Credit goes to @guillaume_boni for building this. I just made it look pretty. Links below 👇

@axvolz It is hard - but you can also spend the early days of founding going super deep on the problem you care about and building a specific network

@Alicebentinck The lifestyle momentum is absolutely bigger risk than failure. The one nuance I would add is starting a company with no network and without deeply understanding the problem is hard, so you need to find other ways to achieve those if you don't join a company.

@HuevaToi The key thing to remember is that if you invest time in intentionally creating a network, it builds and compounds very quickly (some energy required...)

@Alicebentinck who really has the energy to start from scratch without connections? that’s a whole vibe, but damn it’s risky

I started Cantos a decade ago with a $4.5M fund 1 and delusions of associated grandeur. I called it “cantos” dreaming that I might partner with founder-heroes whose impact would propagate through time, remembered as legends. 10 years might have jaded me but it’s quite the opposite. Now I KNOW the future can be shaped. Our portfolio founders have shown me—so our ambitions are as grand as ever. May your deeds echo a thousand years. 🏛️
Cantos@cantos

We have two exciting announcements today as Cantos turns 10… First, we closed our new fund earlier this year. Canto IV is a $70M fund purpose-built to lead pre-seed and seed rounds. We oversubscribed, wanting to keep it right-sized for being a founder's most aligned first partner. Second, we launched our new look with help from our friends at @asimov_co! Cantos is so-named as an ode to epic poems, where grand stories are written in "cantos" rather than chapters. We view founders as the protagonists of today's epics and seek to back those whose deeds become the stuff of legend. Our new website is a testament to the scale of their ambitions, with visions from a future they will have shaped. Resonat in Æternum 🖋️

Automating the lab bench is the best thing we can do for AI in biology. Most experiments are still run by hand. Every biologist's handiwork is unique and every lab is a little different. So, biology faces widespread reproducibility issues. But, AI will demand more reproducible data than we can produce, and generate more ideas than we can test. Experiments must be communicated and executed in a standardized way to generate reproducible data. So, Tetsuwan is building a lab where users specify experiments in an exact syntax. These experiments are executed by an automated platform to generate transparent, reproducible output. The user never needs physical access to a lab. This is a biology lab you can use like a computer. Our platform, built and tested with pilot labs over the past two years, lets users configure automated workflows rapidly & precisely. Later this year, we will bring our first services online, focusing on functional screens for protein design. Alex and I met at Caltech, where she was one year my senior. We're building this company because we were little kids who wanted to be biologists that grew up into adults who resented the lab bench. We want biology to be about asking questions, not the painful and frustrating manual process of asking them. For those looking to receive updates on our pilot services, looking for a meaningful job, or just to learn more about our work, see the links in the comments!

The UK has already minted 18 unicorns already in 2026 The total for 2025 was 20 so we are going to surpass it soon. UK tech is on track to have its strongest year since 2021, and its not just AI companies that are performing well. Consumer companies, fintechs, hardware, defence... the UK is firing on all cylinders. Here are some of the UK's newest unicorns: > OLIX from @jamesdacombe > Huel led by James McMaster and now acquired > Fresha from William Zeqiri and Nick Miller > CuspAI from @ac_edwards_1 and Max Welling > Granola from Christopher Pedregal and @samstphenson > Nyobolt from Sai Shivareddy and Clare Grey > @join_ef from @matthewclifford and @Alicebentinck > Allica Bank from Richard Davies > UFORCE from Oleg Rogynskyy Map is unrelated but from John Tan and @dealroomco data from @yoramdw, @sabben, @smorla and team!

Founding is discipline. When Matt Francis and Aidan Holmes started building Rama, one of the first things they did was write down how they were going to work. Start time, end time, daily goals, daily learnings. Not just: how many customer calls did we do? But, what did we actually learn? There is no room to be sloppy as a founder. Full Waymo conversation with Matt in the first comment.

The pace of San Francisco is something you have to experience to understand. Two weeks from first conversation to signed contract. That's why we're here. Where are you building from?
Alice Bentinck@Alicebentinck

Everyone talks about how fast fundraising moves in San Francisco. But the customer speed can be just as transformative. @E_Molimpakis met a US customer at a conference. They came up to the @thymia booth, asked about their work on diabetes through voice, and wanted to explore a partnership. Two weeks later, the contract was signed. For founders, pace is often set by the customers they serve. Fast-moving customers force you to move faster. That’s one of the reasons we immerse founders in San Francisco: to experience that velocity firsthand. Full Waymo conversation with Emilia in the first comment.

At @CallosumAI we are aggressively scaling up hiring, in our London office 🇬🇧 We are building a more pluralistic vision of AI: co-evolving diverse chips and new architectures for the next generation of intelligence, that is economically viable at scale. We've opened roles across our inference engineering and heterogeneous infra teams. We want the most ambitious & exceptional people to join us. If you want to do the work of your life, would love to talk! 👇

When we first met Jean and Patricia, @BubbleRobotics did not exist. Jean was in Milan, Patty was in Zurich. They did not know each other yet, but they were both looking for the same thing: a cofounder to build a deeply technical, ambitious company with. In October 2024, they joined EF. They met at our kick-off weekend and teamed up immediately. A few weeks later, after exploring multiple ideas in agriculture and recycling, they landed on the ocean. That became Bubble Robotics: autonomous robotic systems that can stay at sea, inspect offshore infrastructure, monitor critical assets, and collect underwater data continuously. From ideation at EF, to San Francisco, to building their first robot in a pool, to raising a $5M pre-seed round, it has been incredible to watch the pace of this team. Proud to have backed Jean and Patty from the very beginning.

Inherent
Inherent@inherent_labs·
We’re excited to introduce Inherent, a lab designed from scratch to build AI agents that discover new knowledge. The coming era of machine-driven scientific inquiry demands a new kind of research institution and a new kind of AI. To achieve our mission, we live within the experiment, recursively self-improving the entire research organisation. We investigate questions including: - What does ‘AI taste’ look like in the sciences, and how can we build an institution that embraces this new aesthetic of discovery? - What new kinds of human-machine teaming will make the most of AI that can truly innovate? - How can we build recursive self-improvement at the collective level that continually increases human agency over outcomes? We have just closed a $50m seed round led by @IndexVentures and @radicalvcfund, with participation from other outstanding investors including NVentures (@nvidia's venture capital arm), @buildexante, Metaplanet, Macroscopic, @MythosVentures, Charlie Songhurst, @chalfs, @jluan, @dwarkesh_sp, @Thom_Wolf, @j_foerst and @maxjaderberg. We are advised by @matthewclifford. Inherent is a Public Benefit Corporation headquartered in London.
