@realalpha2000 well no there aren't two definitions. both bacteria and fetuses are objectively alive, but being alive is different from being sentient.

"You don't get two definitions" why not? When a scientist says that bacteria are alive, they obviously aren't implying the things that pro-lifers imply when they refer to fetuses as lives.
