Producing podcasts with companies & sharing what I learn. Lessons from 11 years of podcasting & 600+ interviews. Looking for the next challenge.

I've treated the last week as a "think week", which is something Bill Gates practiced while running Microsoft as CEO. From what I've read, he'd stay in a cabin and completely disconnect from work, the internet, and family. He'd just read, think, and write for 7 days. I didn't take it that far – I spent most of the last week with family for the holidays. But I did start reading a couple of books, and I have been taking long walks almost daily while recording a ton of thoughts (which are transcribed and sent to Notion with an automation I built). I also stopped working, largely stayed off social media, and full deleted Twitter from my phone. Results so far: I now have extreme clarity on my business' direction for the next year: - How we'll improve team processes and communication - Content schedule and structure - Overall goals I'm also feeling refreshed and much more motivated than I did going into the holidays. Perhaps most importantly, I'm feeling good about truly embracing my role as CEO in my company. As we've grown to a 10-person team, I've largely resisted this – but after this week, I'm ready to truly step up to the challenge. I'm not sure that booking a cabin in the woods is needed (maybe I'll try it later this year), but I can say that what I've done has been incredibly helpful: - Stepping away from the day-to-day grind - Reading a lot (getting more inputs or "dots") - Writing (in my case, talking) a lot - Walking and spending time outdoors This is likely something I'll continue doing each year, if not multiple times a year.
