Billionaires would still have $8 TRILLION if we passed a wealth tax. But WE would have $6 TRILLION more for healthcare, childcare, housing, education, paid leave, food assistance, and more. Any arguments against a wealth tax at this point are just bad math.

If the rich were to pay their fair share, when might they expect their rebate. How might that rebate be funded?

The average American today lives better than John D. Rockefeller did in 1926. That is not an exaggeration. It is a fact. Rockefeller could not fly across the country in five hours. You can for $200. He could not video call his family from another continent. You do it for free. He had no antibiotics, no MRI, no air conditioning in July. He could not carry every book ever written in his pocket. You are reading this on a device that does all of that and more. Americans throw away 30-40% of their food. Not because they are wasteful, but because food is so abundant that waste is affordable. Your car has climate control, navigation, and safety systems that did not exist at any price a century ago. Your home has heating, cooling, refrigeration, and entertainment that emperors could not have imagined. None of this was voted into existence. None of it was redistributed from the rich. It was created by free minds operating in what remains of a free market. Every comfort you enjoy today is the product of a man who thought, invented, produced, and traded voluntarily. This is what the remnants of capitalism still deliver, even while it is being dismantled. Imagine what a fully free society could build.

@RealRickRule Carry is a tax break for the rich & was almost eliminated (pe firms bought off Kirsten Sinema's vote). It is unfair to ordinary Americans. It will be eliminated in next Congress. Only 10% of PE ventures amount to anything (per Mark Andreessen). All others are worthless.

@realrepayne The carry is no loop hole. They take the risk, along with their investors, and get paid a slice of what they earn, as opposed to fees. Fees are income, a carry is a carry

Madam: In that regard, private equity reminds me of congress. Increase taxes, incur debt, reduce service. The difference is that compannies controlled by private equity must convince their customers to buy, volutarilly , congress can and does coerce. Look in the mirror, and you will see the real problem

@RealRickRule @MrToad5 Yes, but it was an agrarian society. Much different than today where we have much higher quality of life. Would you want to live in pre 1913 America? If not, you must admit that the current tax system gives us a better life. Tariffs proposed by Trump can improve on our life.

@Beth_Kindig Plenty of natural gas available. TPL has a million acres of oil & gas rich land in West Texas. Alphabet is exploring data centers there.

Entergy is planning to build seven new natural gas power plants, offering 5.2GW of power, to support Meta's $META 5GW Hyperion data center, with Meta paying for the full cost of service. Entergy says the new agreement will deliver an additional $2 billion in customer savings. $NVDA $AVGO $GOOG
