@RoseElla1234 Brimley was 58 when this movie was filmed, and still did the horse riding stunts as you can see...especially notable at about 2 mins into this clip as he is riding off at full tilt. I didn't know he was a working cowboy prior to acting...quite a life lived!

Tom Cruise’s performance in The Last Samurai is one of the first things I bring up anytime someone ignorantly suggests that Cruise can’t act. Cruise is quietly vulnerable in this role & his physicality and dedication is impeccable. Cruise’s nonverbal acting in this film is some of the best of his career. Don’t ever question this man’s acting chops.
