One lesson learned (I hope) on Artemis II is this is no way to recover a crew on the ocean. I'm sure they were indeed "green" by the time they got them out and then dragged out of a raft in rotor wash and hung out over the sea... no, we need to do better there, a lot better.

@greggnunziata Flag burning: you’re more interested in protecting the symbols of American principals than the principles themselves. That’s just wrong.

Cool. I'd also like to see criminalized flag burning, a federal law banning abortion, the end of the pardon power, and a return to state legislatures choosing senators. The Constitution says different. Work to do.

A majority of Americans want to see the country restrict access to birthright citizenship along the lines of what President Trump has proposed, according to results from a new survey released Thursday. trib.al/rmWDe9w

The President’s threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” cannot be excused away as an attempt to gain leverage in negotiations with Iran. This type of rhetoric is an affront to the ideals our nation has sought to uphold and promote around the world for nearly 250 years. It undermines our long-standing role as a global beacon of freedom and directly endangers Americans both abroad and at home. The oppressive, terror-spreading regime of the Islamic Republic must be distinguished from the people and the civilization of Iran. Everyone involved—especially the President and Iran’s leaders—must de-escalate their unprecedented saber-rattling before it is too late.

@lance_corporate This sounds great, but the fundamental problem with this experiment is that all of these people know it’s for show and that they will go back to their pampered lives when it’s over. If it’s an existential crisis then you think, feel, and act differently due to the stress.

A reality show where talk show hosts have to do what they’re always telling other people to do. Dave Ramsey has 7 days to find a reliable $2,000 car for DoorDashing and a little old lady’s $500/month garage apartment to live in. Shawn Ryan has to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney where he’d prosecute Congressional corruption cases in federal court and have 12 months to secure a conviction. Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin have to survive an entire 31st MEU CENTCOM deployment as E-2s. Each its own season, all live-streamed to X.

Trump's Iran War has been a disaster in the U.S., as gas prices eclipse $4. But in the developing world, the shock of spiralling energy prices has been cataclysmic. 1/ A short thread the scope of the damage Trump has caused. There are crises everywhere and you need to know.

BREAKING: Iran is organizing nationwide human chains of youth, athletes, and artists at every power plant in the country at 2 PM Tehran time tomorrow, per Iran's Ministry of Sports and Youth. The campaign is named "Human Chain of Iranian Youth for a Bright Future." Its slogan: "attacking public infrastructure is a war crime." International signage will be displayed for global media coverage. At least 2,000 NGO members are confirmed. The chains form 13 hours before Trump's 8 PM ET strike deadline. Iran is gathering civilians at the exact infrastructure the US has threatened, and televising it to the world.

@christopherrufo Elon bought Twitter because he couldn’t organically get what he craves most: adulation and attention. The changes he made to promote his own piss-weak content also elevate similar slop like Catturd.

This is correct. Twitter's long-term value is the perception, and, ultimately, the reality, that this is the front page of the news writ large. It should be the place where writers, editors, producers, bookers, policymakers, and artists *have to be* to remain in the discourse. If it doesn't deliver on this at a high level, it will become another irrelevant Boomer slop-feeding machine like Facebook. Generates cash, yes, but doesn't shape elite thought, which is Twitter's most valuable function, and, presumably, why Elon bought it.
Jesse Walker@notjessewalker

"Portal to the rest of the Internet" is key. For years, this site was the front page of a morning paper whose articles were spread all over the web. That isn't *gone*, but management now tries to suppress it & replace it with..."Gunther Eagleman"? "Wall Street Apes"? Come on.

Nate Silver@NateSilver538

It can't be *that* hard to create a version of Twitter/X that removes some of the groupthink but still promotes high-quality engagement and content. And is a portal to the rest of the internet rather than a closed ecosystem, always one of the good things about pre-Elon Twitter.

@Simon_Ingari This is a bunch of pretentious wankery. HR is not a Greek chorus, it exists to protect the CEO and company from employee lawsuits. This is amateurish fairy-tale stuff, just cringe.

HR: We lost the new hire today. CEO: What happened? HR: He resigned after his first week. CEO: That makes no sense. We doubled his previous salary. HR: Yes, but salary was not the issue. CEO: Then what was? HR: You asked him why he left at exactly 5:00 p.m. And why he left the office before you did. CEO: I was just trying to understand his mindset. HR: He understood it clearly. He felt the company was not paying for his work, but for control over his time. CEO: But commitment matters. HR: So do boundaries. He finished his work, met expectations, and left on time. But instead of that being seen as professionalism, it was treated like a lack of loyalty. CEO: People should not rush out of the office. HR: He was not rushing out. He was simply leaving when the workday ended. CEO: Still, it did not look right. HR: That is exactly why he left. He realized very quickly that even with better pay, the culture expected presenteeism over performance. CEO: That is unfortunate. HR: Yes. We offered him double the salary, but also gave him a preview of a workplace where leaving on time becomes a character issue. CEO: So what are you saying? HR: If employees are judged for having boundaries, then no amount of money will make them stay. A higher salary can attract people. But if respect for time is missing, it will not keep them.

@rushicrypto Gen X hid under our desks daily because the USSR was as powerful as the USA and had 10,000 nuclear missiles pointed our way. Boomers were being thrown into prison if they didn’t go fight in a jungle, then got spat on if they lived. You have to pay an extra buck for gas. Relax.

College student confronts Karoline Leavitt: 'Voter fraud is incredibly rare. According to the Heritage foundation, there have only been a few hundred cases of voter fraud out of hundreds of millions of votes. Is it worth it to risk millions of Americans from voting in order to prevent a few hundred cases of voter fraud?'

@ChrisMartzWX This idea is called “solipsism” and has been known to philosophers for thousands of years. It’s also perhaps the most pedestrian sci-fi trope around. But to people who haven’t discovered it on their own by age 9 it’s the most profound thing ever.
