Jane Morris didn't just sit quietly for 'Blue Silk Dress' (1868) by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. A talented embroiderer, she designed and made this gorgeous Pre-Raphaelite gown for the portrait, which also emphasises her expressive hands

Artist + muse Hazel Martyn posed for more than 400 portraits by her husband, Sir John Lavery, becoming his trademark, as well as Ireland's, as she appeared on banknotes. Her favoured portrait was 'The Green Coat' (1926) which she believed "the best one of me he has ever painted"
