@Goosenpaii The facial movements are literally a 1 to 1 recreation of the catcher’s actors in a lot of games now? There’s basically no restrictions on the face now.

This era of half anime, half realism was the best, and it was much easier to animate. Eyes and faces were so expressive, whereas nowadays hyper realism makes it harder to express a character's face due to them being restricted by reality + being far more expensive.

@guvkingEN yea ppl often only talk about cartoony graphics as the ones that dont age, but this is a perfect example of like older realism that has become a style of its own as time moved past it

@recoder1120 final fantasy 12 is to timeless to me, i think that artstyle works great in the ‘stylized but not cartoony way’ that i think can hold up forever

@cheonsajeong its this or anime cel shading, which are like 2 extremes and i dont like either. ff12 is such a cool 3d interpretation of 2d anime concept art i loveeee the skin texture. i hate how much 3d anime stuff is just flat colours glowing insanely bright.

I miss the airbrushed quality of the skin!! Sometimes I feel like modern games are way too detailed it makes everything look too messy

@gongo059 i think in having a limited range of emotions, more work is put into a kind of neutral face with a flat affect thats more universal. Modern AAA games are kind of like jack of all trades master of nones in trying to make a face that can bend to make a weak version of any emotion.

The less detailed rigs were so beautiful man
I think that sometimes❗️having a limited tool box gave a more clear direction for the games and allowed them to maximise the tools uses

@recoder1120 I will never understand the glazing FF12's visuals get. Everyone looks like they're wearing plastic masks, and not even particularly convincing ones.
FF10's character models were more detailed, and that was a PS2 (close-enough-to-)launch game.
