MEDIA RELEASE
PUBLIC ALERT ON THE RECALL OF MEGLUMINE AMIDOTRIZOATE/ SODIUM AMIDOTRIZOATE 0.3 / 0.6 / 0.76 G/ML UROGRAFIN 60% (SOLUTION FOR INJECTION)
Embargo: Immediate Release
Harare, 24 March 2026 - The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe wishes to inform healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical stakeholders, and members of the public of a voluntary product recall concerning Meglumine Amidotrizoate / Sodium Amidotrizoate 0.3 / 0.6 / 0.76 g/mL (Urografin 60%) Solution for Injection, a contrast agent used in X-ray and diagnostic imaging procedures. This action follows a critical communication from Bayer Pty Ltd (South Africa), indicating that all batches manufactured between October 2020 and March 2025 are affected.
The recall has been initiated after confirmatory testing detected an impurity, N-Nitroso-Meglumine (NO-Meglumine), at levels exceeding newly established safety thresholds. Recent scientific studies have shown that this impurity is genotoxic and potentially carcinogenic, prompting a significant reduction in the acceptable daily intake limit to protect patient safety.
The Authority confirms that Urografin 60% was registered in Zimbabwe in 2018. However, there is no record of its importation into the country between 2020 and 2026. Despite this, there remains a potential risk that the product may have entered the local market through unauthorized or illegal channels.
Healthcare facilities, pharmacies, and wholesalers are urged to remain vigilant and ensure that this product is not in circulation or use. Members of the public and healthcare professionals who encounter Urografin 60% are strongly advised to refrain from using or administering the product.
Any suspected presence of the product should be immediately reported to the Authority or a qualified healthcare provider.
The MCAZ will intensify market surveillance activities, including inspections and public awareness initiatives, to prevent the circulation of this potentially harmful product. The Authority remains committed to safeguarding public and animal health by ensuring that all medicines in Zimbabwe meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficacy.

They are some of the worst on the continent, including Malawians. They were taught that their own ancestors are demons, while ancestors from the Middle East are presented as the chosen ones, as God’s favourites.
How foolish must one be to believe that one’s own ancestors who gave birth to you and your lineage are devils, yet an ancestor like Abraham is regarded as divinely anointed?
It will take generations to undo this mindset, because even highly educated Africans with PhDs still run around shouting “God of Israel, God of Israel” everywhere, without questioning the contradictions.

@maguranyanga It is truly heartbreaking to hear about the brutal passing of Mr. Walter Mapfumo. There are no words that can adequately cover the cruelty of this act or the depth of the loss felt by his family and the community he served.

JUSTICE WILL AVENGE HIS CALLOUS MURDER‼️
At 10pm on the 15th of March, fortuitously, I went to collect a rental car from this guy depicted in the picture, at the ZAOGA Church in Marlborough (on Harare Drive); Mr Walter Mapfumo, the guard on duty.
He directed me to where the keys were & after assessing the car, I duly drove out 20 minutes later. Less than 4 hours later, a band of armed bandits scaled the perimeter wall, accosting the guard taking him prisoner. He apparently resisted.
The robbers initially coldly gouged-out both his eyes! Yeah they did that! Then after robbing ê church of money, they stabbed him in the chest. Several times. Killing him immediately.
I learnt with utter sadness of dedicated guard Mr Mapfumo’s cruel demise. I am a hardliner against such callous crime. I am in regular touch with the @PoliceZimbabwe authorities.
And my prayer was: THE BANDITS THAT MURDERED MR MAPFUMO IN COLD BLOOD MEET THEIR END IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO COME.
The Police Zimbabwe crack squad doesn’t mess. And they don’t miss a target. Watch the space‼️
Jolly fellow. My 20 minute interaction with him memorable. So sad his life so cruelly curtailed. MHSRIP🙏🏾

There’s a man in my office who hasn’t been promoted in 6 years.
He arrives before everyone. Leaves after everyone. Knows the company’s systems better than the people who built them. When something breaks at 2am, they call him.
His name is on the bottom of reports that directors present to the board. He doesn’t complain. He says he’s just “not political.”
Last week, a 26-year-old joined us. MBA. Firm handshake. Calls the MD by his first name. Within 3 months, he’s already sitting in meetings my colleague has never been invited to.
I watched my colleague train him.
Smiled the whole time. Answered every question. Shared shortcuts it took him years to figure out.
Afterwards I asked him, don’t you feel cheated?
He looked at me for a long moment.
“I used to. But I realized something. I’ve been loyal to a company. Not a purpose. Those are not the same thing.”
He resigned two weeks later. Took everything he knew with him. Started something of his own.
The MD sent a company-wide email. Called it “a great loss to the team.”
Eleven years of emails. And that was the first one that mentioned his name.
The system will celebrate your exit more than it ever celebrated your presence. Stop waiting to be seen. Build something that sees you if you’re not appreciated where you are.

THIS IS NOT A DISTANT, FARAWAY WAR: The US/ISRAELI-provoked war against Iran is not a war in the distant Middle East and Persia. It is here in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa and our Africa. It is a war of limited vengeance and wider a-vengeance. Of course Iran continues to hit Israel directly. It may not immediately hit US directly, if ever. But it has hit will continue to hit US-targets in the Middle East and elsewhere. Much rests on how those Middle Eastern states, including UAE which is Zimbabwe’s second largest trading partner, will react. Middle East, the main source of global fossil fuels, is involved in this conflict, meaning the rest of the world, Zimbabwe included, will feel the war by way of fuel supplies and fuel prices. One frets about our fuel stocks and how well we can be kept buffered as this indeterminate and radiating conflict plays out. The Middle East is the waist of the global body; state after state in this vital part of the world, are closing their airspaces. This, alongside closure of waterways - Yemeni is a key player - is set to levy a huge cost on global supply chains, much worse than we faced when the Russia-Ukraine war broke out. All economies will feel the heat. For Zimbabwe, gold will soar and will certainly cushion it somewhat. However, what Zim gains by way of gold prices, Zim will lose by way of fuel and related imports. For key countries like China, Russia and North Korea, the war is immediate as it raises the spectre of US resorting to war to fend off competition and challenge to her hegemony. US’ global war infrastructure is now active (including attacking Iran from Syria which recently joined US-ISRAELI orbit. A sense of siege and encirclement is inevitable in the aforesaid states. It means more to guns, and less to bread. Defence budgets will escalate. The weaponry in use, after all, makes this war a duel between superpowers. Zimbabwe was just beginning to get it good with greater, more serious investments especially from P.R. China. One hopes the investment momentum will not become subdued. Last and perhaps most important, this is a war about controlling politics of polities with coveted resources. After Venezuela, Iran is the second victim of wars for CRITICAL MINERAL RESOURCES!! Zimbabwe cannot be indifferent; US has taken a clear decision that WAR is the FIRST RESORT of its DIPLOMACY globally. Its belligerence will grow worse as its dollar and manufactures dominance get challenged more and more. In many ways, this is a war in OUR NEAR ABROAD!!!!!!
