I won't waste further time on neo-Confederates on this site. But for those interested in the subject of the true nature of the Confederacy and the issues of the Civil War, hard to top John Stuart Mill's 1862 essay, "The Contest in America," which I discussed here: volokh.com/2013/07/17/joh…

@BenApparition @LVpolitic @kroger I've never not eaten the whole thing. You know what you have to do.
English

@redclayGT @LVpolitic @kroger For real first time with the salami and it was fire af. I have 2 slices left rn trying to tell myself It’s better to not eat them but I know what’s going to happen
English

@BenApparition @LVpolitic @kroger Was hoping someone was going to mention the Private Selection spicy salami pizza. So good.
English

@kroger private selections brand is on point. Made in Italy mostly, some in germany, all non enriched wheat. Sometimes I goof and eat a whole one and it doesn’t kill me later. This is the spicy salami. Usually I go with the margherita.
Runners up are newmans own and wild mikes.
Even digiorno has an acceptable “wood fire” which is non enriched from Italy. If you get the non wood fire from them it’s absolutely a 100 ingredient trash pile though

@DBolelli @elonmusk @TheAliceSmith Socialists and Nazis are all collectivists who want to control everyone's lives in order to achieve similar, but slightly different ends.
English

@elonmusk @TheAliceSmith It's exhausting to deal with this level of ignorance. Here's a breakdown explaining in simple terms why what you are saying is factually wrong: dancarlin.com/product/ep-07-…

@CabreraAngel @GeorgiaTech Perdue looked out most of all for UGA. Added engineering AND medicine there, when the case for it was very weak. Kemp, UGA through and through, will replace him soon and continue the same thing.

We appreciate you, Chancellor Perdue, and we thank you for all you've done for our universities and for @GeorgiaTech! You're an example of Progress and Service! 🐝🙏

@801formal_llama So you're saying that all ownership, of everything, comes from the government? What about other rights? Do they all come from the government too?
English

@ChrisMartzWX I know why I own my house and I can explain it to you. How do you own your house? I assume it's through the same mechanism. It starts with a g.

I don’t want to hear anyone’s defense of the personal property tax.
You should not have to pay any taxes on property you (allegedly) own after the sale of purchase. That’s the whole point of private ownership. Am I right?
The police, firefighters, and schools can be funded through a consumption-based sales tax on optional purchases that are not required for actually living. And, if you don’t have kids that are in school, then you shouldn’t be forced to pay for public schools at all. For instance, I have no kids (yet), so why am I paying for others’ kids to go to school?
Also, if everyone in a community uses the same basic services, why do people with more (or more valuable) land get taxed more to pay for the same things?
And still, nobody has answered my other question. If we have to pay property taxes on land (and even vehicles in some states), then why is furniture not given a property tax? Why is your cookware not given a property tax? Why are clothes not taxed annually because that’s property too? Right? Why is it only land, motor vehicles, and equipment that get taxed on an annual basis according to the value the government determines it to be?
The only fair tax to levy are consumption-based sales taxes (on non-essential items) at the sale of purchase and tariffs on imported goods. But if you insist that there mathematically must be an income tax (which I haven’t seen the evidence for because you’re really just admitting that government spending is out of control) to ensure that things get proper funding (assuming no fraud is occurring, which is naive), then it should be a flat tax. High income earners should not be punished because they’re successful.
Estate tax needs to go.
Inheritance tax needs to go.
Capital gains tax needs to go.
The payroll tax needs to go (along with the Social Security Ponzi scheme it funds).
Annual registration fees also need to go.
The property tax makes no sense because it is applied inconsistently and selectively. Again, why are land and vehicles taxed annually according to their value, but not other property?
The income tax would only make sense if it were a flat tax applied to all income brackets at a low rate (<15% federal, and very small at the state level—or even nonexistent altogether where tourism is high, like it is in Florida where there is no state income tax).
The sales tax is the only tax that makes fiscal sense. When other taxes are lower, people spend more because they have more disposable income. And, the rich would pay more because they buy more luxury items. The poor would not be hurt (like claimed) because most of the things they’d buy wouldn’t be taxed.
Instead of defending the status quo, we should be looking for ways to downsize the government, reduce spending, and in turn give people more money in their pockets to spend at their will. That is true freedom in an American sense.

@JamesSurowiecki You should really go into investing James, if you know so much more than the market.

New piece on SpaceX. It's a fascinating company, and the rocket and Starlink divisions are great businesses. But if Musk manages to get a $2 trillion valuation in the IPO, it'll be the greatest magic trick in corporate history.
