Feeling incredibly thankful today for the skilled nurses and surgeons who took care of me, and for everyone who sent support during my surgery. I’m also grateful to live in a country with universal healthcare, where getting medical care doesn’t mean going into debt. The only thing I paid for was parking. Healthcare is a right.

How are housing and health inextricably linked? An unhoused patient has health care costs 7x higher than housed individuals. And people without housing typically live nearly 20 years less. Housing is a matter of human dignity and sound economics.

Rest in Power & Peace, Peter. Last night, with family by his side, Peter Leslie ended his journey in this world. Peter played a significant role in Toronto’s harm reduction community - he will be deeply missed.

In the past 3 months I have not had a single TTC ride without issues or delays! For everyone who relies on TTC as their only form of transportation, this is a nightmare! Can’t even imagine what it’s like for visitors! We need to do better! @TTChelps @TTCnotices @cityoftoronto

Dear 2024, I have reviewed your manuscript with interest and regret to advise that I will be declining representation. While the plot is interesting, it strikes me that there is a little too much of it. I fear that readers will become overwhelmed. 1/

Another day in Toronto, another “no service, we apologize for the inconvenience” on @TTCnotices I know shit happens but when delay free commute on public transportation is an EXCEPTION and not a rule, it’s obvious there is a huge problem 🙈 #TTC #torontoproblems #toronto

Some people continue to blame harm reduction on unaddressed societal issues - this is incorrect, harm reduction saves lives, PERIOD! Yes, some drugs cause problems for some people, but they aren't the primary problem. The primary problem is unaddressed societal issues which are driving, poverty, trauma, homelessness, addiction, and overdose! #harmreductionsaveslives #wedorecover

Great new study in @TheLancetPH, showing a significant decrease in fatal overdoses in the Toronto neighbourhoods surrounding supervised injection sites - a 67 per cent reduction in overdose deaths in neighbourhoods within 500 metres of the sites thelancet.com/journals/lanpu…

The Icelandic tradition of giving books as presents is #Jolabokaflod Then spend Christmas eve night reading and eating chocolate. In Iceland they publish more books than any other country and sell most of its books between September and November as they prepare. 📚🎄❤

I'm proud to work at @allsaintsTO, which is one of the last truly low-barrier spaces left for unhoused folks in TO. With just 15 staff, we have no core funding from @cityoftoronto or the Diocese, yet we serve 200+ meals, four days a week (it's stuffed peppers today, c/o Chef Me).

📢For anyone not into reading full threads here is the bottom line. The federal gov't offered the @cityoftoronto two armouries for a few weeks for refugee shelter and then $5m to operate a refugee shelter at the Better Living Centre. The city turned it down.

In 2022 we were warned the Ford government was not "For the People" but rather "For the Profit". Just a year and a half later, we see the true colors of the Ontario government. "Doug Ford’s government is quietly privatizing health care". March 15, 2022. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

@dreamingofuuuu Thank you so much for sharing that info! I’m in Toronto 🇨🇦 and fortunately the pharmacist part is the same - I got it over the phone & it’s been helping so much! You are lucky you still have access to PCR testing, we lost that a long time ago 😭

Absurdities of our health care system: started feeling sick over the weekend, tested + for COVID, never seen a test turn + so fast (in under 3 minutes). I qualify for paxlovid but in order to get it I have to SHOW UP IN PERSON TO MY GP’s OFFICE 👀 Wait? What?

@RJ080911 I am really sorry to hear this! I don’t understand treating employees with such mistrust 😔 my workplace still has “COVID means staying at home until symptom free + testing negative for 48 hrs + sick days not deducted” approach. I think that should be the norm 😢

@redheadStorm My employer only allows 2 sick days before.a Dr. note required. Sick with covid but expected to go in person to busy dr office to get note!?!? Can't even get an appointment for 2 weeks. This is why people show up to work sick. This is why covid will never end.

@peggy_blair Peggy you are a life safer! Thank you! I was told the GP has to SEE me but I completely forgot about the pharmacy part. Called them, they verified I qualify & a family member can pick it up. I really don’t feel comfortable leaving my home & potentially getting other people sick

@redheadStorm Surely your GP can call it in to a pharmacy? I understood pharmacies could prescribe this now directly as well?
