@jordanpbanks @Anderson_JSA So many people can’t comprehend that voting SNP does not mean SNP would govern an independent Scotland. That’s the level of intelligence out there 🤦♂️
English

@thomasjohngavin @SymbolStones @TartanSeer We literally fought him from day one 😂. He had no bother with England
English

@rednotrednotred @SymbolStones @TartanSeer It comes down to priorities. Anytime a choice has to be made, Englands priorities go before Scotland. He was the king of both countries, he chose England first.

New on Substack:
England borrowed the money to pay for the annexation of Scotland.
Then added it to the Anglo-British British national debt.
Which Scotland was then required to help service.
Scots subsidised their own takeover. There was no bailout.

Angry Pict@SymbolStones
For 300 years we've been told: Scotland failed at Darien. Scotland went bankrupt. England rescued it. None of that is true. Scotland had no national debt in 1707. England had a vast one. The 'Union' wasn't a bailout. It was predatory incorporation - annexation disguised as English generosity. New Substack article live very soon: Scotland Wasn't Bankrupt: The Real Fiscal History of 1707

I will only buy Scottish 🏴 that are labelled without a butchers apron. @LidlGB should brand Scottish produce with the Saltire.
William Brown@Brown666W
Folk waiting for a premium Scottish product which are Scottish strawberries are going to pass these by unless they look close enough @LidlGB , with this non descript branding.

@KKilcoyne You wouldn’t tho, you’d be throwing yourself into another union with Brussels
And to get in you’d be giving away the power you claim to want
English

@FortressLugh You are aware that this is all just fantasy?
Like all the so called ‘Scottish Celtic culture’ fabricated and manipulated

Calgacus was a leader of the Caledonii who fought the Romans in the Grampian mountains.
In Ireland, the original name of Derry, is Daire Calgaich "The Oak-Grove of Calgach".
The name Calgacus rendered in Old Irish would be, Calgach. If this is the same Calgacus is of course unknown, but what it shows beyond doubt is that the same given name, Calgacus, being used on both sides of the Sruth na Maoile, or North Channel.

@SeannachaidhS @TomOHanlon17 My low lands have never been Gaelic. My north eastern dialect of Doric is rooted in old English.
I hold no connection to the gaels, nor thier foreign Gaelic tongue
Attempting to ‘gaelisize’ the whole county is a fallacy created by anti union fantasists in the 19th century
English

That's a very outdated model. NE Ireland Ireland and SW Scotland had been part of a single north channel maritime culture since about 1200 BCE, long before there was an "Ireland" and a "Scotland". When NE Ireland received Gaelic so did SW Scotland, with their Ogham dated to the same period - because it was already part of the same world, with people moving constantly to an fro, the water a highway, not a barrier. No 'invaders' required.
Look at a map of the Crannogs - the oldest of which are in Scotland and date to 3,500 BCE - and this ancient connection is made abundantly clear.

English

@thomasjohngavin @SymbolStones @TartanSeer But you could rightfully argue that a war with the Spanish Empire was by far more dangerous than bailing out a doomed colony of 1200 people.
Especially coming immediately after the nine years war.
English

@rednotrednotred @SymbolStones @TartanSeer I’m agreeing while adding some often overlooked detail. The native tribe signed a treaty with Scotland to fight against the Spanish. ‘British’ King William III put Englands relationship with Spain ahead of Scotland. He ordered no ships to trade with Darien, not even water.
English

@SymbolStones @thomasjohngavin @TartanSeer Ok. I respect the rules of engagement.
The latter comment on relativity was made in response to the comment that our colonists were 'good' and the Spanish were 'bad', when the subject in question revolves around the legitimacy of the fact that bankruptcy led to the Union.
English

@rednotrednotred @thomasjohngavin @TartanSeer Darien is relevant to the topic, your comment isn't. Don't troll people on my timeline.
That's strike two.
English

@HibernianSea I pledge allegiance to no nation, I am Dundonian only.
English

@rednotrednotred The name of that country literally means land of the Gaels….
English

@SymbolStones people on here getting their knowledge on Darien from YouTube videos 😂
go read the Darien papers - bannatyne Club
regardless, it does not matter if Scotland was or wasn't bankrupt, the Union happened and there's no going back
