😳 This is the Premier League table if Newcastle had held onto all their leads... They've lost more points (25) from winning positions than anyone else in the league this season 📉

@BBCMOTD interesting that he agrees with Tuchel and wouldn’t take Trent! I feel like I’m missing something.

@Carra23 there was a reason the Kop sang ‘we all dream of a team of Carraghers’- probably not elite but def not bang average! it’s amazing how many either forget through time or just didn’t see.

I don’t blow my own trumpet as it’s not my style or the style for people from the city of Liverpool, but we are allowed to defend ourselves! There has only been three CB’s from LFC to make the PFA TOTY in the PL era, VVD, Sami & me!! The year was 2005/6 when the PL CB’s were…….
Parted Beard@PartedBeard

Carragher was Henderson of his time. A loud leader that pushed teammates to be better. Overall he was an average CB with outstanding moments like Istanbul after 1st half. Because he is a famous pundit and a local lad he is overrated by local fans. PFA Team Of The Year once.

@henrywinter everyone seems to want to forget that Liverpool agreed a fee and personal terms (at half of what City are paying) so I’m not sure what else they are supposed to do. Palace got cold feet when Glasner said he would leave 🤷‍♂️

Liverpool’s failure to move earlier and more decisively for Marc Guehi last summer, giving Palace more time to find a replacement, has cost them dear. Fans warned that as the season began. Guehi would have brought more composure and security, and competition for Ibrahima Konate in particular, and also for Virgil van Dijk (and Guehi better on the left). Liverpool’s loss of authority at the back is clearly a huge problem. Conceded 41 goals last season. 39 already this season with nine games to go. Have just conceded four goals to teams in relegation positions, Wolves (2-1 loss) and West Ham (5-2 win). Look at the calm Guehi has brought to Manchester City's defence. Giovanni Leoni’s injury was particularly badly-timed for him and LFC but he’s inexperienced, only 19 (only 14 Serie A appearances with Parma). Jeremy Jacquet, 20, currently awaiting shoulder surgery, arrives in summer. Liverpool have succession planning at centre-back, but Guehi was a bad miss. Other issues behind Liverpool’s travails: lack of pace out wide, right-back churn, Frimpong’s injuries, Isak injuries, Salah uncertainty, players settling in, opposition improvements, poor concentration leading to conceding late goals (and questions of stamina and Slot’s changes?). Slot’s persistence with certain players. Inexperienced but exciting and swift Rio Ngumoha versus experienced but slightly predictable Cody Gakpo? Ngumoha still only 17 but surely worth his first PL start at some point. A statement of intent. Liverpool are too open, too prone to individual errors, too many good players off the pace. They have to finish in the Champions League positions otherwise Slot’s own position deserves to come under scrutiny. Money talks and the Champions League talks loudest for FSG especially after last summer’s investments. Slot surely still has some credit in the bank following last season’s unexpected Premier League triumph. He deserves some patience and understanding – and Liverpool’s match-going support will doubtless give him that. Slot deserves backing until the end of the season and then any decision can be made. #LFC

@TheAthleticFC @SamLee it’s not a VAR issue - it’s a rule or law issue. VAR got it right - by the law. VAR has its issues but is also a scapegoat for other problems.

For many, the ridiculous VAR decision to rule out a Manchester City goal in their Carabao Cup victory against Newcastle United was a new low — Pep Guardiola included. After the game, Guardiola went on a lengthy diatribe against VAR. @SamLee on what he said and the history behind it. nytimes.com/athletic/69681…

Do wonder if the internal discussions have started regarding Liverpool moving on from Alexander Isak and returning in January or next summer. We need at least one forward in the door before the window closes as per Slot... And our chances of that hinge on the most incompetent club in the league as things stand. What you reckon guys?

@AnfieldSector purpose dead end- make Isak think they are trying then saying he can’t go right at the deadline cos they couldn’t replace him.

Looks like another near impossible target with 2 weeks left in the window & Wolves already selling Cunha. In a relegation fight if they lose Larsen's goals too, and Wolves probably won't be able to replace him. Feels like another dead end.
David Ornstein@David_Ornstein

🚨 Newcastle retain firm interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen. Not more advanced than other options but 25yo Wolves forward among small group being considered. Talks via intermediaries + Norway int’l keen on #NUFC but not agitating to exit #WWFC @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/65599…

Starting to debate whether I want Wirtz + 0.5 or Bruno. Don’t like the idea of going into GW1 with only Salah. But Bruno could genuinely be immense this season with pens, defcon and actual finishers in the team. Could wait for nicer fixtures though. Dilemma. #FPL
