I actually wasn’t aware of Masyn at the time. So there was def no personal intent towards him. But to his credit, everyone is aware of him now. He has a gifted skillset. Clearly nobody understood that it had nothing to do with Winn, he’s a great player with a great future ahead of him. The point was our media showcases and highlights dumb shit that doesn’t matter. He has a great arm, the best in the league, at the time he threw a ball across the diamond as hard as he could to nail a runner by 30’. The media lost their mind because he threw the ball 100mph. They showed it 100 times over and over again. He’s had countless plays, spectacular plays where he actually needed to let it eat and recorded outs. So the message was throw it as hard as you can across the diamond and we will blow you up on social media. That’s not important and shouldn’t be emphasized, being accurate and converting outs, which he does a great job at, should be the emphasis!

1. Thanks for the response lol 2. Also a titans alum and dodgers fan 3. Fair, but I don’t think we can say yet that the rule can’t create more Ohtanis. It’s a tiny sample size. The two‑way designation only really kicked in a few years ago, and a full development cycle from “freshman in college” to “big‑league two‑way” is like 6–8 years. We basically have one unicorn and a bunch of orgs that never fully committed to letting their two‑way guys stay two‑way in the minors. If teams actually leaned into that path for a decade and still nobody cleared the bar, then I’d buy the argument that the rule doesn’t move the needle.

No offense, but writing a rule isn’t just going to create a bunch of “the best player evers” to all the sudden show up

I’d love to know the solution from those complaining about the “Ohtani Rule” all of a sudden. Are the Dodgers supposed to taxi a 13th pitcher on the 6 days Ohtani isn’t pitching and deactivate that guy when he starts? These complaints never occurred when he was languishing in Anaheim.
