I have a theory that everyone consumed a piece of media between 9-13 years old that is the foundation of their entire worldview. Everything they learnt since was stacked on top of this. Asking this is one of my favourite ways to get to know someone.

Redwall is awesome, and is the reason I can read. When my parents were teaching me to read they gave me those awful beginner books, you know the ones "the fat cat sat on the hat", etc.. I really liked the animated Redwall show, and one day my parents had some friends stay over, and one of them had a copy of Redwall. I hadn't realized the show was based on books even though it said so right at the beginning of every episode, because I couldn't read, at all. I was only able to recognize it because of the art and font on the cover of the book. So, my parents got me the first book, Redwall, from the library. I was ten at the time, I think, and went from not being able to read to reading books that were 300+ pages long in a couple days almost overnight.
