Just had coffee with my cousin who moved to Texas last year
She was bragging about her "amazing" American salary
"I make over $190,000 as a software engineer"
I just nodded and smiled, because it was so obvious she is lying
First of all, nobody makes that kind of money
Salaries like that are reserved only for senior government officials and EU commissioners
Second, even if this somehow happened (America is a lawless place after all), I don't know any woman that would be paid that much anyway
My uncle leaned over and whispered "I'm worried about her"
We agreed she was probably embarrassed about her real situation
She was most likely fired months ago and is living off credit cards like all Americans do
Later my aunt Gertrude called me and said she suspects her daughter might be actually being trafficked, as no European woman would choose this life
Another victim of the American dream

@MatrixMysteries This just in: the secrets of borrowing money is that it costs EXTRA money to borrow money. 🤯
Who knew.

A lot of Americans have no idea what's going on up in Canada, but a few months ago, the Supreme Court ruled that a huge swath of Vancouver's suburbs actually belongs to an indian tribe.
These Aboriginal Land Claims are now going to explode across the country. The whole thing is quickly becoming a massive grift.
For example, another indian tribe has a lawsuit going on where they claim title over literally half of the entire province of New Brunswick.
Canada is allowing itself to be broken apart via legal and administrative implosion.

@FoodProfessor The article says the meat came from animals produced by artificial insemination.
I grew up with beef. We AIed in the 80's. This is not new, not scary, and definitely fear mongering.
English

Cloned meat enters the market … but you would never know.

@ryangerritsen We buried a beef in the ground for a pit roast for my sister's wedding. If this food is for a family celebration and not for sale in a shop, what is the issue? It looks like they're on private land?
English

@DannyJNassi @AVGirl4Life A child doing that is allowed those behaviors. Proper parenting of a child with issues includes not taking a child with those issues into a public space without precautions in place should a switch flip to this type of behavior.
English

@AVGirl4Life Absolutely the parents, and young girl, should be held accountable. Start scrubbing floors.
English

@psheather3 @OJoelsen That's a pretty standard exchange rate, on average, over the last 30 years.
English

@OJoelsen I believe the main reason is because the Canadian dollar is only worth 0 .71 cents in the States, it's been that way for over 6 months now. Also, with the economy the way it is even a trip within your own province is expensive.
English

According to a new report from CBC News, the United States has lost $5.7 billion USD in tourism revenue as many Canadians continue to stay home — and some even boycott travel to the U.S. entirely.
Since Trump took office, the number of Canadians visiting the U.S. has dropped sharply, and the American economy is now feeling the impact.
English

@JamesAFurey I wonder if this precedent will be the catalyst for a much needed change?
Oh I hope so.

To everyone who insists I am exaggerating when I say that there are no consequences when students misbehave:
I'm sorry. I was wrong.
It turns out that if a kid shoots a teacher because of an insane lack of discipline and safeguards at the school, the teacher can sue and win $10 million.

@KatKanada_TM It hasn't snowed in Edmonton. Don't know when this pic is, but it's not this week.

@BenVerlander I'm Canadian and will drink a Caesar anytime I want one without guilt.
Don't listen to the haters. Listen to your tastebuds.
English

Who’s clowning on me for loving Caesars at any time of day?!
This is ridiculous. I’m a newbie. I like em I drink em. I don’t know all the rules.
devin@devin__p__
@BenVerlander Heads up dude - Caesars are "first drink of the day" hangover type of drinks. They clowning you on local sports radio for the Caesar enjoyment
English

@moraggemma @BenisonMrs Mine too!
I took a year leave when my son was 5 to enjoy the last year before he started kindergarten.
Took zero salary during that time, so you do need a SO who makes bank.
English

@BenisonMrs Oooo it totally is here. We can take whatever time we want without pay with our principals agreement. And if its after the birth of a kid it's up to 7 years before they can force you back.
Strong unions people.
English

@ABDanielleSmith Pretty wild you had time to make this video, but not sit down with the bargaining team.

Today we announce Bill 2: the Back to School Act.
If passed, this bill will put student learning first, ensure our children return to the classroom on Wednesday, October 29th and legislate a fair reasonable collective bargaining agreement for Alberta teachers. On top of $8.6 billion to build and modernize 130 new schools, this deal will ensure:
✅ $70k to $119k salaries
✅ 3,000 extra teachers
✅ 1,500 more education assistants
We know there is more work that needs to be done.
