“The word ‘risk’ derives from the early Italian risicare, which means “to dare.” In this sense, risk is a choice rather than a fate. The actions we dare to take, which depend on how free we are to make choices, are what the story of risk is all about. And that story helps define what it means to be a human being.” ~Peter Bernstein

today I realised my job is to create art. for me, art is the finite expression of infinite games, and beauty is the subtle expression of essential duality. somewhere within lies joy and wonder

Ilya Sutskever gave John Carmack a list of papers to read, so as to improve John's understanding of AI. That is a lot to read. If you want to quickly grasp what those papers are about, in this thread I share maps on over 20 of them 👇

@Phin_totten Tradeable currency and goods in a restricted capital market (no outside convertibility) is not the same as tradeable currency and goods in an open economy (open convertibility). Pretty sure nobody wants to see open economy games happen more than me galaxyrtk.substack.com/p/can-joy-be-f…

@zeroedgeRK You do realize games have had tradeable currencies in them since the early 2000s right? Like with arbitrage opportunity, marketplaces to OTC and more To think tokens don’t fit into gaming narrative is wildly wrong

To say that games and currencies have mixed together forever just because of third party markets for gold or skins is like saying that restricted fx is freely floating because of a black market, the structural differences are massive It’s not impossible it’s just really hard. I explored one way it might be done for an mmo here galaxyrtk.substack.com/p/can-joy-be-f…

@zeroedgeRK I’m curious to learn what you mean by “opportunity cost in eth is 40% fixed”. If you’d be willing to share in more detail, it’d be great to understand what that means. Thanks!

As much as I want to get back into NFT blue chips I am finding it very difficult when the opportunity cost in eth is 40% fixed. As distasteful as this may sound to the “pure” artists and collectors, I think we need to be leaning more into the moneyness of art through design
