Eastern #DRC now faces a catastrophic collision of disease and conflict with the #Ebola outbreak in Ituri province outpacing the response.
The Ebola Bundibugyo virus has no approved vaccine nor treatment. Stopping this Ebola transmission depends entirely on humanitarian access. Yet ongoing clashes are driving mass displacement, pushing exposed contacts into overcrowded camps and severing critical containment corridors. Frontline workers are risking everything, while attacks on health facilities make tracking cases and their contacts nearly impossible.
We cannot build community trust or isolate the sick while bombs are falling.
We urge all warring parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire to contain this outbreak. To allow us safe and sustained access for medical teams.
We plea to prioritise human survival above everything else.

English

@KrutikaKuppalli US can and should treat exposed in the US.
But I didn't think measles would be back on the table so what do I know.
English

Can someone explain the rationale behind spending millions of dollars developing and sustaining biocontainment units in the United States if, when Americans are potentially exposed to #Ebola, the plan is now to send them abroad instead of caring for them here?
Now we are reportedly considering building or supporting facilities in Kenya with unclear protocols, unclear standards of care, and unanswered questions about who will staff and run them. None of this makes sense from a preparedness, operational, or ethical standpoint.

@garonnevik I also suffer from this affliction. You don't stand a chance when you're looking through seed catalogs in January.

This Ebola outbreak has been a slow motion disaster - 900 cases and and now threatening the U.S.. We know how to stop outbreaks like this. But Trump chose not to stop it. He destroyed our global health team, deliberately exposing us. 1/ Here's the story of how this happened.

๐ธ๐ช Sweden passed a ban on first-cousin and close relative marriages effective July 1, 2026.
Countries that ban or heavily restrict first-cousin marriage:
China ๐จ๐ณ
North Korea ๐ฐ๐ต
South Korea ๐ฐ๐ท
Philippines ๐ต๐ญ
Norway ๐ณ๐ด
Uzbekistan ๐บ๐ฟ
Tajikistan ๐น๐ฏ

United States ๐บ๐ธ (24โ30 states)
Laws can be nuanced (some ban the marriage but donโt criminalize it, or only apply to citizens/residents). This list is not exhaustive.

@eclecticeleanor It depends on what kind of birds you want to attract. I use easy to clean metal feeders for seed and glass for hummers. Water in glazed ceramic and natural pond/occasional flooding on property.
Have fun!

Veterinarians have been recruited to screen people for disease. Please pay human health professionals to do this job. No one wants to have a vet take their temperature ๐

#NewSpeciesAlert - Cleaning up the cleaner wrasses: ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ (D) and ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ (G, H), two new species of cleaner wrasse (Labridae) are described from the eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean, respectively. The authors revise the ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐โ๐กโ๐๐๐๐โ๐๐๐ข๐ and ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ species complexes, and provide a rediagnosis of ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ , along with the two new species description, a major work on this enigmatic group of fish.

Fowler & Bean, 1928 species complexes of cleaner wrasses are reviewed. The former comprises three colourful, phylogenetically intractable species confined to tropical coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific, viz., ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐โ๐กโ๐๐๐๐โ๐๐๐ข๐ from the Hawaiian Islands, ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ Randall, 1958 from the central and southeastern Pacific, and Labroides pectoralis Randall & Springer, 1975 from the western Pacific.
Our phylogenomic analysis of genome-wide ultraconserved elements and mitochondrial DNA resolves four taxa within this complex, with one taxon, ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ , new species, described as a new, cryptic species from the eastern Indian Ocean. ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ , new species, is described on the basis of eight specimens, the holotype and four paratypes from Christmas Island, and three paratypes from the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. A second species, ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ , new species, is described on the basis of six specimens, the holotype and two paratypes from Flora Reef, Coral Sea, and one paratype each from the Izu Oceanic Park in Japan, Holmes Reef in the Coral Sea, and Boulari Pass in New Caledonia. ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ , new species, appears to be widespread across the western Pacific but is restricted to deep mesophotic coral reefs below 40 m. The new species is highly distinctive and appears to be only distantly related to ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐. The recent synonymy of ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ within ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ is corroborated by morphological and phylogenomic evidence, and the species is reinstated as ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ข๐ (Rรผppell, 1835), following the historical combination first established by Gรผnther in the nineteenth century.
New ecological and field observations are provided for ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ , and phylogenetic relationships for the new species, congeneric species of ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ , and related genera of labrichthyine wrasses are explored. ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ is rediagnosed and a key to species is provided.

@maybeimabelle Seen this on other ceramic/plastic/metal animals. Always looks like adult human male gear.
Silliest was on a cow creamer - an udder would've made sense.
