Ending TPS is not just cruel. It is tearing families apart, forcing hardworking people from their jobs, disrupting our schools and healthcare system, and leaving children terrified that their parents may not come home. For decades, Haitian families have worked, paid taxes, raised their children, and strengthened South Florida. As long as I have a voice, Haiti will never stand alone, and neither will the families who have helped build the community we proudly call home.

A strong America does not hide from its history. It tells the truth, honors the sacrifice, and preserves the evidence. America’s promise of freedom was built on the blood, sweat, and stolen lives of Black Americans. No attempt to erase that truth will make it disappear. Frederick Douglass reminded us, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” Preserving our history is part of that struggle, and America must always remember who built her and fought to make her promises real.

Black women are the backbone of our families, workplaces, and communities, yet they are still paid just 65 cents for every dollar earned by white men. I will never accept an economy that undervalues their work. Equal pay is not a privilege. It is a right.

The 2025 Annual Report from the @CSSBMB_ is out, and I’m proud to share it. The report highlights concerns surrounding the school-to-prison pipeline and solutions to help Black boys thrive. This work is about more than data. It is about dignity, opportunity, safety, and building a future where every Black man and boy can reach his full potential.

Haitian families deserve stability, dignity, and a future free from fear. I am fighting to pass the Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act and secure a pathway to permanent residency for eligible Haitian nationals and their families. Preparation is not surrender. Watch this important message, make a family plan, and safeguard your documents. We will continue fighting for you every step of the way.

I have spent my life fighting for Black boys, and these numbers should shake our nation to its core. We cannot celebrate our boys while abandoning them in crisis. This public health emergency demands culturally competent care, trusted mentors, safe spaces, and real investment before another family is left grieving. To those struggling, you matter. You belong. We need you here.

John, it has been six years since your passing, yet your presence is still deeply felt. We miss you, and you are forever in our thoughts. Your legacy continues to inspire us every day.

Behind the Smithsonian’s walls, the truth of America stands unafraid. Every voice, every story, and every hard-won chapter reminds us that a nation cannot move forward by hiding what it has survived. I will fight to ensure that truth is never dimmed, distorted, or denied.

Six years ago today, America lost a civil rights giant, but John Lewis’s spirit still marches beside us. He bled for our democracy, stood unshaken in the face of hatred, and showed generations that courage can change the course of history. We honor him not with words alone, but by continuing his fight for justice, voting rights, and the “good trouble” our nation still needs.

When I first got to Congress, WRDA lacked consistency, so I brought Democrats and Republicans together to restore it. Today in committee, I stood on that record of leadership, fighting for Florida’s ports, protecting the Everglades, and building stronger, more resilient communities.

I have always believed that when we put people before politics, we can accomplish great things. WRDA 2026 is proof of that. The National Museum of African American History and Culture is more than a museum. It is a promise that the sacrifices, struggles, and triumphs of Black Americans will never be forgotten. We owe future generations the truth, not a history rewritten for political convenience. History has no party. It answers only to the truth.

Langston Hughes declared, "I, too, sing America." Today, that poem lives on through every story preserved and every artifact protected. The American story is not complete unless every chapter is remembered.

The Civil Rights Act was not handed to us. It was earned through the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who refused to accept injustice. Preserving Black history means preserving the truth. Black history is American history, and we must protect it for generations to come.
