@molochofficial One thing I’ve seen that really stuck with me is pointing out an LLM cannot comprehend context or subtext, and therefore writes EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE as if it HAS to make an impact. It cannot “build” because it doesn’t actually understand what it’s spitting out

ai writing is so obvious because it has no idea where to put emphasis. every sentence is given so much importance, and it basically spits all the symbolism at you outright. it ends up becoming blurry and cluttered, much like a painting with no focal point

@Jibbypuff06 @saltedsan I know a lot of professional copy editors who are unemployed and better than AI. Not faster, of course. I know nobody is paying a copy editor for fanfic, but it's all the same system. Plus the companies use your work to train the LLMs, even if you don't use them directly.

@saltedsan Agree, especially if you're speaking specifically about generative AI. OTOH, most grammar and spelling checks are now AI backed. My point is, AI is just a tool, not a creator. Authors, in my view, are totally allowed to use tools as long as such isn't doing the writing. Thoughts?

AO3 writers I would rather read your fic with grammar mistakes, with simple sentences, with repetitive ideas all the time I love, anything, and wait for a new chapter from you for days, weeks, or even years (I’ve been there) than knowing that you’re using AI for your writing.
