Almost 1 year ago, James Van Der Beek posted this video as he wrestled with his mortality and reflected on the meaning to life. Today, he died. I strongly encourage the rest of us to listen to what he discovered before his battle was over. I truly hope in the past year, he met Jesus. That is where the road he was on ultimately ends. He is right that you are worthy of God's love. He loves you. He is real. And he really sent his son to die for your sins so you can be with Him forever.

@KenShepherd State laws really do matter. In VA where I served previously, it was very stringent in providing proof of ordination (may have changed since I was there. In Alabama, several years ago the state separated the functions and no longer asks clergy to serve on behalf of the state.

I kinda wonder though if/where interpretation of state laws can be kinda tricky here. If state law allows for "ordained" clergy to preside, I think you can make the case as it were that since REs are validly ordained as such to the office, that they would be eligible. But state laws, arguably, default to a more Anglican-ish or at least three-office default view of Christian ministry. That is I think most court clerks would disagree that an RE is "ordained" for the purposes of being a religious official who may solemnize weddings per the laws of that given state.

Fellow Presbyterians, thoughts on a ruling elder solemnizing a marriage? For our purposes assume the RE is under the laws of his state able to solemnize weddings.

I’ve got a Great Pyrenees who refuses to come inside right now. Call him to the door and he just stops and lays down in the snow. Haven’t seen him this happy in a long time
