This morning the Islamic Republic announced the execution of three more protesters: #Mehdi_Rasouli #MohammadReza_Miri and #Ebrahim_Dolatabadi who were arrested during December protests in Mashhad and sentenced to death after sham trials. If the international community does not respond to this grave injustice soon there’s a serious risk of hundreds of executions in the coming weeks as the regime expedites the killings of their own people as a deterrent to another (imminent) uprising.

I was in Golders Green yesterday. I arrived just as the police presence was building. My heart goes out to the two Jewish victims and to their loved ones. We need to make our Jewish community know we support them. Even before I knew what had happened I was in tears because you could feel panic in the air. These are just regular people getting with their lives. London has always been a great multicultural city. Our Jewish community brings us so much. After the commercial disaster of 'Dodes'ka-den' (1970), Akira Kurosawa attempted su!c!de as he was considered "no longer bankable" by the Japanese studios. He agreed to direct 'Dersu Uzala' (1975) in 1971. The movie was entirely financed by the Soviet Union. It is considered to be an important movie in his oeuvre. Three years of filming in the Siberian Tundra left Kurosawa exhausted. The movie was a modest success. After that, without other means of support, Kurosawa was forced to do whisky commercials (for Suntory). Akira Kurosawa's salary for the commercial was $30,000, but more importantly, this venture made his two great admirers in the USA, Francis Ford Coppola & George Lucas aware of his plight. Both of them would help him to finance his next project, 'Kagemusha' (1980).

Can we stop with the “I don’t support Iran’s Islamic authoritarian regime but I do support them standing up to Israel and the US. Both positions can coexist” nonsense. This is not nuance. It is standing with the regime in Iran and against the people begging not to be massacred. A regime that has consistently lied about their ballistic missile capabilities and who have always been clear about their nuclear bomb intentions. Take Ali Motahari here, a prominent politician and former lawmaker who served in the Iranian Parliament until 2020 who let it slip in an interview that Iran had originally intended to build a nuclear bomb for intimidation purposes but the plan was exposed before it was completed.
