61-6 over the last two years in one of the best regions in the country … and no All-Americans!!?? Proud of our guys and what they’ve built, but disappointing to see their sacrifices and success not rewarded.

That was the most ghetto State of The Union Address I have ever seen. I am so disappointed in our elected officials.

On May 8, 1965, more than a year after Kennedy’s death, Dwight D. Eisenhower did something that revealed just how deeply the loss still weighed on him. Despite his own failing health and doctors’ warnings, he was 74 and recovering from his third heart attack—Eisenhower traveled to the Kennedy Library groundbreaking ceremony in Boston. Standing beside Jacqueline Kennedy, he told the assembled crowd something that made even hardened reporters weep: "President Kennedy possessed the greatest campaign weapon any man could have—he had Jacqueline Kennedy by his side, but more than that, he possessed a quality I grew to admire deeply in our many conversations—the courage to admit when he didn’t know something and the wisdom to seek counsel." What made the moment even more powerful was Eisenhower’s revelation that he had kept every letter Kennedy had ever written him, bound carefully in a private collection he called “Letters from a Young Lion.” That day, he donated them to the future Kennedy Library, saying he wanted history to know their friendship had been real—that politics hadn’t divided them where it mattered most. Jackie Kennedy squeezed Eisenhower’s hand and whispered something those nearby heard: “He called you his North Star, General. He never stopped seeking your guidance.” Eisenhower’s voice broke as he replied, “And I never stopped believing in him.” Here were two people from different worlds—the widowed First Lady and the retired Republican general—united in grief and mutual respect. They showed us that the bonds forged in service to country transcend everything else. This is the America worth fighting for—the one where we see each other’s humanity first. © Vintage American Photos #archaeohistories

If you're going to penalize a 1-loss Power Conference team for a weak strength of schedule... BYU's SOS is better than Ole Miss and Notre Dame. If you're going to penalize a team for not having the strongest power ratings (which incorporate prior year's history and recruiting rankings)... BYU's FPI is higher than Oklahoma's. If you're going to penalize a team for a non-competitive / bad loss... Alabama lost by 14 to a team with a losing record and Miami lost to two unranked teams. If you're going to use strength-of-record like you indicated you would, BYU's SOR is the second highest of teams 6-12. BYU also (1) made its conference championship game and (2) if you sum up the wins of the teams it has beaten, it is THIRD in the country. It is hard to win games and BYU has beaten a lot of teams with a lot of wins. This. Makes. No. Sense. The @CFBPlayoff should be ashamed of itself. It has literally contorted itself into a pretzel to avoid putting BYU where it should be ranked (somewhere between 6th - 9th). RT to get the info out there. They need to feel pressure.

Cam Schlitter's average velocity freshman year of college at Northeastern was 88.8mph. By his junior year, it was 90.4mph. Last night, it was 98.9mph. So maybe don't worry if your 15-year-old son isn't already committed to a SEC program?

"Satchel Paige had a very, very good fastball... but the first time I faced Satchel, he threw me a little breaking ball, just to see what I could do, and I hit it off the top of the fence. I got a double. When I got to second, Satchel told the third baseman, 'Let me know when that little boy comes back up here.' Three innings later, I go to kneel down in the on-deck circle, and I hear the third baseman say, 'There he is.' Satch looked at the third baseman, and then he looked at me. I walk halfway to home plate and he says, 'Little boy.' I say, 'Yes, sir?' because Satch was much older than I am, so I was trying to show respect. Satchel walked halfway to home plate and said, 'Little boy, I'm not going to trick you. I'm going to throw you three fastballs and you're going to go sit down'. And I'm saying in my mind, 'I DOOON'T THINK SOOO. If he threw me three of the same pitch, I'm going to hit it somewhere. I turned to the catcher and asked, “What does he mean?” Catcher told me, “He’s going to throw you three fast balls. Nothing else.” Satchel threw me two fastballs and I just swung...I swung right through it.. and the third ball he threw, and I tell people this all the time, he threw the ball and as he let go he said, 'Go sit down.' This is while the ball was in the air. Yes, he struck me out with three pitches. He was just magnificent." Willie Mays
